Job Summary
The Medical Records Clerk plays a vital role in managing and maintaining patient records within a healthcare facility. This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in medical terminology and record-keeping systems. The ideal candidate will ensure that all medical records are accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible for healthcare providers while adhering to confidentiality regulations.
Duties
- Organize and maintain patient medical records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of medical records by reviewing documents for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Input patient information into electronic health record (EHR) systems and update records as necessary.
- Retrieve and prepare medical records for healthcare providers, ensuring timely access to information.
- Assist in the auditing of medical records to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Respond to requests for medical records from authorized personnel while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to facilitate efficient communication regarding patient information.
- Participate in training sessions to stay updated on changes in medical record management practices.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and understanding of healthcare documentation standards is essential.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems or similar record management software.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with healthcare professionals and patients.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations regarding patient information.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in health information management is a plus.
