Public Health Nurse
The Mental Health Association of San Mateo County (MHA), a nonprofit organization, enriches quality of life, restores dignity, and reduces homelessness, particularly for those affected by mental illness and HIV/AIDS. MHA strengthens hope by providing shelter, support and opportunities for socialization.

Definition of Position: Under the supervision of the Public Health Nurse Supervisor, the Public Health Nurse leads a Wellness Program at four of MHA’s sites: Waverly Place, Belmont Apartments, Cedar Street Apartments, and Spring Street, as well as some clients who live independently in the community. To implement the Wellness Program, the Public Health Nurse leads wellness activities, advocates for clients in the health system, and provides individual medical care.

- Develop and maintain good working relationships with all MHA employees.
- Maintain regular contact with supervisor and inform supervisor of daily schedule.
- Participate in staff meetings regularly.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement activities.
- Provide supervisor with all necessary information in a timely manner.
- Actively plan and participate in all-staff meetings, trainings, retreats, and other activities as requested.
- Comply with all program and agency policies and guidelines when serving clients.
- Assume responsibility for other tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- RN degree
- Public Health Nurse Certification desirable
- Well-developed communication skills
- Able to work with patients who are sometimes reluctant to cooperate
- Work well with a team while also working autonomously
- Ability to be flexible
- Pass a criminal justice background check upon hire
- Have a valid CA driver’s license with a good driving record, a reliable car, and current automobile insurance. MHA reimburses mileage for travel.
