Position Summary:
The Mental Performance Coach will serve as a key member of the athletic department at Sacred Heart Cathedral. This role is focused on enhancing the psychological readiness, emotional resilience, and faith-aligned character development of student-athletes. The coach will provide mental skills training that supports high performance under pressure, while also nurturing student-athletes? spiritual and personal growth in line with the school?s mission.
The Mental Performance Coach will equip student-athletes not only to compete at the highest level in the WCAL, CCS and the state, but also to grow as faith-driven leaders and resilient young adults. Rooted in Lasallian Vincentian Catholic values and committed to excellence, this role blends peak performance training with whole-person development to help student-athletes thrive?on the field, in the classroom, and in life.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
Models for student-athletes the characteristics of a Lasallian Vincentian educator;
Supports and advances SHC?s mission, philosophy and Integral Student Outcomes;
Program Development: Work with Athletic Directors and the Athletic Performance Director to build out a comprehensive mental performance program over each academic year within a broader vision for the next several years, establishing benchmarks and measurements to assess progress and effectiveness.
Competitive Performance Support: Provide mental skills training (goal setting, focus and clarity, confidence and composure, visualization and mindset) to help student-athletes perform at their highest level against elite competition.
Team and Individual Coaching: Lead team-based workshops and one-on-one sessions tailored to the unique mental demands of elite, highly competitive high school athletics.
Resources: Provide research and resources that can be of help to coaches, student-athletes, and parents of student-athletes.
Lasallian Vincentian Culture Building: Partner with coaches to foster leadership, humility, and servant-mindedness.
Focus on the integration of our Lasallian Vincentian Catholic faith, sport, and identity.
Resilience Training: Support students in managing pressure, adversity, and setbacks.
Partner with Athletic Trainers to guide injured athletes through recovery from a mental and emotional standpoint.
Coach & Parent Education: Offer professional development for coaches and informational sessions for parents on the role of mindset, values, and resilience for athletic success and success in life.
Data-Informed Program Growth: Use tools and systems to monitor participation, progress, and feedback.
In collaboration with the Athletic Directors, develop outcomes and metrics that will regularly track and measure positive impact of the work.
Evaluate outcomes against defined benchmarks to refine the program and maximize impact.
