Job Summary:
MenuSifu is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Underwriter to join our team. As an Underwriter, you will evaluate the creditworthiness of businesses applying for Merchant Cash Advances (MCAs). Your role will involve assessing financial statements, bank records, and business performance to make informed underwriting decisions while balancing risk and opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze business financials (bank statements, tax returns) to determine funding eligibility.
- Assess risk factors, including cash flow stability, industry trends, and business' repayment capacity.
- Review and verify applicant documentation for accuracy and fraud detection.
- Use underwriting guidelines and risk models to approve, decline, or adjust funding offers.
- Collaborate with sales and risk management teams to optimize approval rates while minimizing defaults.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and anti-fraud measures.
- Communicate with brokers, merchants, and internal stakeholders to clarify underwriting requirements.
- Monitor portfolio performance and recommend adjustments to underwriting criteria as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bilingual in English and Chinese required.
- Experience: 2+ years in underwriting, preferably in MCA, small business lending, or restaurant/food service financing.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret financial data and trends.
- Attention to Detail: Keen eye for spotting inconsistencies or red flags.
- Risk Assessment: Ability to balance risk and reward in fast-paced environments.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with underwriting tools (e.g., Excel).
- Communication: Clear and professional when interacting with applicants and team members.
- Industry Knowledge: Understanding of restaurant operations and revenue cycles is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in fintech, alternative lending, or commercial banking.
- Knowledge of MCA regulations and compliance (e.g., truth-in-lending, usury laws).
