Position Responsibilities
As an ELA Teacher, you will:
- Instruction and Curriculum Delivery
- Provide engaging, differentiated lessons aligned with New York State standards.
- Utilize various co-teaching models and instructional strategies to ensure all students can access the curriculum.
- Create and deliver small group skill instruction and individualized support during resource periods.
- Assessment and Data Analysis
- Formally and informally assess student learning, analyze data, and track progress toward academic goals.
- Maintain assessment binders and progress trackers to monitor student achievement.
- Collaboration and Planning
- Collaborate with co-teachers, grade-level teams, and instructional support staff to co-design lessons, share student work, and align instruction with curriculum standards.
- Participate in regular planning, professional development sessions, and school-wide initiatives.
- Student Support and Accommodations
- Ensure appropriate accommodations are provided in alignment with IEPs and 504 plans, including supplemental aids like graphic organizers and testing accommodations.
- Implement behavior management techniques to foster a positive and productive learning environment.
- Family Engagement
- Build strong partnerships with families by maintaining consistent communication, sharing both successes and areas for improvement, and actively involving them in their children’s learning journey.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
- New York State Teaching Certification in English Language Arts
- Proficiency in technology, including Google Suite and online learning platforms
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Education or related field
- 2+ years of successful teaching experience in urban school settings
- Strong commitment to promoting equity and critical thinking
Schedule & Commitment
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
- School Year: Mid-August through late June
- Location: In-person teaching in Mount Vernon, NY
