Under the direction of an Ophthalmologist, the Ophthalmology Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry and lensometry. Prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Effectively utilizes Valley Children's systems, software and modules to perform job-related functions. Documents all pertinent information in a precise, clear manner. Functions as a patient care team member assisting licensed staff in the performance and provision of safe, service-oriented and efficient patient care.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum six (6) months providing direct patient care preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year assisting in a medical office or hospital preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple priorities in a timely manner. Medical terminology skills preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma as accredited by the US Department of Education or GED required
  • Graduation from Ophthalmic Technology program or two (2) years in a similar role in lieu of patient care program preferred.
  • HeartCode Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer into position required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred.
