Summary:

The Ophthalmology Technician supports clinical and research functions of department by preparing/performing assigned eye procedures on pediatric and adult patients under supervision of physician.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares equipment and patients for ophthalmic testing procedures.
  • Assists physicians with performing various ophthalmic testing procedures.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
  • Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise

  • Experience in ophthalmology is preferred.
  • Experience in pediatrics is preferred.
  • Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
  • Experience in healthcare is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.

Education and Experience

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor' degree is preferred. Completion of an approved Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant program preferred.
  • Certification: Joint Commission on Allied Personnel in Ophthalmology certification or certification-eligible is preferred.
  • Completion of the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO) ophthalmic medical assisting independent study course is required within the first year of employment.
  • Years of relevant experience: 0 to 2 years is preferred.
  • Years of experience supervising: None
