Essential Functions:
- Provides supportive, accurate and prompt care to the emergency department patients under the direct supervision of the RN or Provider.
- Undresses patients and secures/labels patient belongings according to department policy
- Assists patient in performing activities of daily living (ADL’s) to include feeding, assisting on/off bedpan, commode, to/from BR and assists in the general transport of patients as necessary.
- Performs other duties as in-serviced, including crutch walking, simple dressings, and assisting physician/NP/PA with splint or cast application.
- Assists RN and physicians with assessments, examinations and treatments.
- Takes, documents and reports vital signs, height, and weight as needed; reports abnormal results immediately to RN.
- Places ECG electrodes and attaches ECG monitor correctly and performs EKG under the direction of the RN.
- Maintains competency and performs Point of Care Testing.
- Assists with setting up oxygen per instructions.
- Assists with attaching SPO2 appropriately, records I&O, and collects specimens.
- Prioritizes responsibilities with focus placed on positive patient outcomes.
- Demonstrates flexibility and cooperation in response to unexpected change in work volume, emergencies, staffing or scheduling changes.
- Supports and assists members of the multidisciplinary team in all activities, as directed.
- Notifies appropriates licensed personnel when patient complains of pain.
- Observes and reports patient condition and changes in condition to the RN.
- Maintains and prepares rooms between patients and procedures.
- Assists with preparation of equipment for procedures.
- Monitors stock and restocks as needed.
- Checks and restocks IV trays and records departmental refrigerator temperatures per departmental policy.
- Assists in cost containment.
- Documents care, vital signs and all other pertinent information promptly and accurately.
- Communicates in an effective and efficient manner with all documentation and with all coworkers, patients, visitors and physicians/NP/PA’s.
- Responds to patient and visitor questions and needs immediately and within established standards.
- Utilizes appropriate clinical and supervisory resources appropriately and as necessary
- Utilizes the Nursing Education Department, departmental staff and/or peers for personal and professional development.
- Adheres to hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations and guidelines
- Complies with Regulatory Agencies (JCAHO, DPH, DMH) safety goals
- Participate in performance improvement activities
Shift: 3:00pm - 11:30pm
Qualifications:

- Must possess verbal and written skills to communicate effectively and courteously with a diverse group of professional and non-professional members of the health care team, patients and family/significant others.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prior ED Technician experience preferred.
- Preferred EMT, Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant. Maintains American Heart Association HeartSaver certification or BLS. Maintains CPI
