Primary Function:
- The Staff Nurse – Perioperative Float is a licensed RN responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care in all perioperative areas, including the Operating Room (OR), Pre-operative, and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This role supports patient care across all ASC locations and requires strong clinical competence, adaptability, and a commitment to safe, effective, and compassionate care across the surgical continuum.
- This position provides clinical support across the three Wills Eye Surgical Network locations, located in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs, requiring flexibility and frequent travel between sites.

General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Float between ASC locations to meet staffing needs and maintain continuity of care
- Deliver patient-centered care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, and age-specific considerations
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Act as an effective, adaptable team member within multiple perioperative environments
Pre-op/PACU Responsibilities:
- Assess and monitor patients pre- and post-operatively, ensuring safe transitions through the surgical experience
- Administer medications, including sedatives and pain management, and monitor for complications
- Recognize and respond to post-operative complications, including arrhythmias and airway compromise
- Provide patient education and post-op instructions to patients and families
- Manage lines, drains, catheters, and monitoring equipment
- Perform discharge assessments and follow-up calls
OR Scrub & Circulating Responsibilities:
- Scrub and circulate in OR cases, maintaining sterile technique and meeting surgeon preferences
- Assist anesthesia providers and monitor patients intra-operatively
- Prepare and manage surgical specimens and documentation
- Respond effectively to emergencies and critical situations using sound clinical judgment
- Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and anesthetic agents
- Support the OR schedule and workflow through organized and timely patient care
