This is responsible technical and administrative work in coordinating the procurement, maintenance and repair of electrical and/or mechanical equipment used in water treatment and distribution at various water reclamation facilities. Work involves the highly skilled inspection, evaluation, proper calibration and efficient and reliable operation of specialized electric, electronic and mechanical equipment; estimating labor and material costs; coordinating contractual maintenance services to include soliciting bids, awarding contracts, scheduling and monitoring contract work, inspecting completed work, and the review and approval of resulting invoices and payments; evaluating and diagnosing equipment malfunctions; evaluating and tracking plant maintenance and repair activities; and the exercise of considerable independent judgment and initiative. Work requires use of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking assets and activities. Work may involve the maintenance of plant equipment including centrifugal pumps, compressors and valves, electric/electronic plant equipment including motors, switch gears, busses and transformers; and the redesign and fabrication of plant assemblies, machines and systems to improve reliability and reduce operation and maintenance costs. Due to the critical responsibilities of this class, this employee could be required to be “on call” and report to work at the discretion of management.

Salary: $28.71 - $43.96 Hourly

To Qualify


Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Have a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Have considerable progressively responsible experience in major electrical, electronics and/or mechanical equipment repair, preferably related to water and/or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Have experience in administering maintenance programs with similar technical, administrative, supervisory and reporting requirements.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have considerable familiarity with the purchase specifications and use of related equipment, and the county and state rules governing the areas of responsibility.
  • Have Project Management experience, with the ability to utilize relevant project management software.
  • Have some supervisory experience and are able to firmly, tactfully and impartially enforce uniform work standards, practices and policies.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the methods, techniques, practices, materials and supplies used for the maintenance and efficient operation of electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment in water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Are able to diagnose reasons for equipment malfunctions and estimate materials, costs and manpower requirements and write specifications for contractual services.
  • Are able to design system modifications to improve service and reduce malfunctions using sound engineering principles and concepts.
  • Are able to read, understand, and work from general instructions and specifications and use diagrams, record drawings (blueprints), operations & maintenance manuals, and schematic drawings.
  • Are able to quickly and accurately perform mathematical calculations to determine cost assessments.
  • Are able to understand written and oral instructions and communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
