Job Description for Principal at Zion-Concord Lutheran School
Accountability:
The principal is accountable to the School Board and through the Board to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation.
Qualifications:
Understands and uses Christian leadership abilities.
Is comfortable making and exercises good judgment in doing so.
Uses time efficiently, organizes work systematically, and follows through on plans.
Has good communication skills: writing, speaking, and listening.
Is sensitive to the needs of others, and evidences love for teaching children.
Responsibilities:
Implements policies adopted by the School Board; provides leadership and assistance in developing new policies,
Prepares the School Board meeting agenda. The agenda will be sent to the School Board members via e-mail at least 2 days prior to the School Board meeting.
Keeps accurate, up-to-date information in the teachers files.
Deals with salespeople, educational personnel of the government and the church, and the general public.
Shall keep abreast of government regulations affecting the Lutheran School and respond with policies fitting to Zion-Concord Lutheran School.
Represents the faculty and staff at the School Board meetings.
Reports to the faculty and staff on School Board actions relating to the school and faculty.
Coordinates fire and safety drills.
Coordinates health-related visits and tests.
Coordinates bus transportation and drivers to assure welfare and safety of the students.
Coordinates administration of annual achievement tests and review results as part of curriculum review.
Actively participates in PTO / Boosters meetings.
Promotes the school and encourages parents to enroll their children.
Meets with prospective families.
Actively participates in District sponsored conferences and workshops related to, or specifically designed for, principals.
Handles parental concerns effectively and fairly.
Presents themselves and the school property in the best manner possible whenever they are representing the school.
Projects a professional image and displays conduct that is consistent with the role of principal.
Participates in all school related events, activities, and functions.
Reports any school related incidents to the school board before they becomes a public matter.
Supervision:
Has a leading role in securing qualified personnel for school with the cooperation and approval of the School Board.
Provides a thorough orientation for new staff members including non-teaching personnel.
Requires the preparation of lessons plans by all teachers.
Uses teacher conferences to help teachers establish goals for improvement.
Ensures formal observations are completed annually for all teachers.
Establishes a good atmosphere in the school, one which is conducive to good teaching and learning situations.
Helps to create a cooperative spirit among the staff members.
Promotes the professional growth of the staff.
Supports teachers in their classroom leadership roles.
Acknowledges good teacher performance.
Works with teachers that exhibit bad performance to come up with a plan and assists with following through with the plan to correct the performance issues.
Holds planning sessions prior to the opening of each school year.
Conducts faculty meetings regularly using planned and written agendas.
Encourages all teachers to participate in all PTO meetings.
Responsible for the ordering of all school material and equipment.
Makes certain that teachers communicate to parents through conferences, private consultations, written and oral forms.
Supervision of Students:
Communicates effectively with children at all levels.
Is effective and fair in handling pupil disciplinary problems.
Is responsible for adherence to standards of behavior which have been adopted for the school.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $25,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
