The Clinical Assistant functions as the focal communication source and as an integral part of the nursing care team under the supervision of the Clinic Director and Clinic Supervisor. The Clinical Assistant greets patients in a courteous and professional manner, escorts them to the appropriate exam room and meets patient/customer service standards. This role completes and documents all clinic lab tests per Provider’s order and clinic lab policy, triages, answers phone messages, and makes prescription calls for patients as directed by Provider.
Clinical Assistant Responsibilities & Duties
- Greets patients in a courteous and professional manner and escorts them to the appropriate exam room in a timely manner, meeting patient/customer service standards. Maintaining adequate patient flow for scheduled, nursing and walk-in appointments.
- Completes entire Intake within each encounter in the EMR, documents, and logs all clinic Point of Care lab tests per Provider’s order.
- Safely and accurately administers and documents medications.
- Performs clinic health care services as per the scope of licensure and training as directed by the clinic Providers.
- Answers and prioritizes patient and clinic phone calls, emails and provider in boxes, documenting them in the EMR, addressing as able and forwarding as needed. Documents and completes patient cases as directed by clinic provider. Arranges for all patient diagnostic testing, referrals and follow-up appointments.
- Assures cleanliness of all exam rooms after each patient visit.
- Assists patients with completion of medical forms and obtaining Provider signature. Assures that all medical consents are signed and witnessed. Gathers Patient Histories- Family, Social and Surgical.
- Monitor and manage EMR inboxes including provider’s as needed by reviewing, completing data entry and labeling diagnostic results and refilling prescription requests as directed by the clinic provider.
- Stocks and maintains patient exam rooms daily, also checking for expiration dates. Monitors all clinic inventory and records low inventory supplies for Materials Management in conjunction with Clinical Manager.
- Maintains sterilization of reusable medical equipment on a daily basis.

Clinical Assistant Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Good interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and all health care professionals and TVH staff.
- Basic knowledge in computer use; including skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to maintain and follow guidelines, set standards of practice in quality patient care, and state, federal, and facility required infection control practices
- Proficient in manual blood pressure collection
- Experience working in a healthcare environment
