Project-Level Geologist / Engineering Geologist (Canonsburg, PA)
American Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc. (A.G.E.S.), headquartered in Canonsburg, PA, currently has an opening for a full-time Project-Level Geologist or Engineering Geologist to join our well-established and growing team.
This intermediate-level position is ideal for a motivated geologist ready to take on increasing responsibilities in supporting and managing a variety of projects. The successful candidate will independently evaluate, select, and apply standard geologic techniques and procedures on small to moderately complex infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Subsurface Investigations – Conduct field studies, including drilling operations, sampling, and logging of soil and rock to gather geologic data.
- Data Analysis & Interpretation – Analyze soil and rock properties, groundwater conditions, and identify potential geologic hazards such as landslides, sinkholes, and unstable slopes.
- Geotechnical Evaluations & Recommendations – Develop recommendations for foundations (bridges and structures), pavement design, slope stability, and mitigation of geologic hazards.
- Technical Reporting – Prepare detailed, professional reports that summarize subsurface conditions and geotechnical design parameters.
- Collaboration – Work closely with engineers, environmental scientists, and project stakeholders to integrate geologic findings into project designs.
- Construction Monitoring – Observe geotechnical aspects during construction, evaluate mitigation effectiveness, and provide corrective recommendations as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
- 5–8 years of experience in geotechnical or geological investigations, preferably involving transportation or infrastructure projects.
- Professional Geologist (P.G.) license or currently pursuing licensure.
- Proficiency with geologic and geotechnical software (e.g., GIS, modeling tools).
- Familiarity with environmental regulations relevant to construction activities.
- Willingness to travel (~40%) and conduct fieldwork.
