Overview
As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs. This position involves providing compassionate care and support to clients in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community environments. Your dedication will help promote independence and improve the overall well-being of those you serve.
Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient care and support in areas such as medication administration and vital sign monitoring.
- Engage clients in social and recreational activities to promote socialization and community involvement.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients by performing light housekeeping duties.
- Document client progress and report any changes in behavior or health to the appropriate personnel.
- Implement care plans tailored to each client's needs, ensuring adherence to HIPAA regulations.
- Support clients with mobility challenges using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance clients' mental well-being.
Skills
- First Aid and CPR certification is preferred for ensuring client safety.
- Experience in group homes, assisted living, nursing homes, or hospice care is highly desirable.
- Strong patient observation skills to monitor changes in client behavior or health status effectively.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients with mobility or transfers.
- Familiarity with memory care techniques, including Alzheimer's and dementia care strategies.
- Experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities is a plus.
- Knowledge of home health practices and caregiving principles is essential for providing high-quality support.
