Job Overview
Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Reading Interventionist to join our elementary education team. The ideal candidate will specialize in providing targeted literacy support to students, accelerating their reading development, and fostering a love of learning through evidence-based reading interventions. This position requires expertise in reading instruction, strong assessment skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and families to ensure every child achieves reading proficiency.
Duties
- Design and implement individualized reading intervention plans based on comprehensive literacy assessments and student data analysis
- Provide intensive, small-group and one-on-one reading instruction using research-based intervention programs and methodologies
- Conduct regular progress monitoring through formal and informal reading assessments, including running records, phonics screenings, and comprehension evaluations
- Utilize multi-sensory teaching approaches, phonics instruction, fluency building, and comprehension strategies to address diverse learning needs
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to align intervention strategies with grade-level literacy standards and classroom instruction
- Support students in developing foundational reading skills including phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension
- Maintain detailed progress monitoring data and create visual progress charts to track student growth over time
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and provide home literacy support strategies
- Participate in data meetings, IEP meetings, and student support team discussions as needed
- Stay current with literacy research and best practices through ongoing professional development
- Support classroom teachers with reading assessment administration and data interpretation
- Create engaging, culturally responsive reading materials and activities that reflect our diverse student community
Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Reading/Literacy, Special Education, or related field
- Valid teaching certification or reading specialist certification preferred
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in elementary education with demonstrated expertise in reading instruction
- Strong knowledge of reading development, phonics instruction, and evidence-based literacy interventions
- Experience with reading assessment tools such as Fountas & Pinnell, DIBELS, or similar diagnostic assessments
- Proficiency with data analysis and progress monitoring systems
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Reading/Literacy, Special Education, or related field
- Reading Specialist or Literacy Coach certification
- Experience with Response to Intervention (RTI) models and tiered instruction
- Familiarity with programs such as Wilson Reading System, Orton-Gillingham, or similar structured literacy approaches
- Experience working with English Language Learners and culturally diverse student populations
- Knowledge of special education processes and accommodations for students with learning differences
- Experience in urban charter school environments
- Bilingual capabilities (Spanish preferred) to support our community

Pay: $79,317.47 - $105,393.08 per year
