The Respiratory Therapy Technician (RTT) assesses, treats, monitors patients and tests a patient's respiratory system to identify potential issues and diagnose lung disease under the supervision of our physicians.
- General respiratory care, including treatment and monitoring of patients with breathing difficulties.
- Administering oxygen therapy, setting up and operating ventilators, performing diagnostic tests, monitoring patients, and educating patients and their families.
- Work under the supervision of a licensed physician.
- Greet the patient in the front reception; obtain medical prescription for order set.
- Explain test fully and clearly to the patient, any concerns for testing should be brought to a physician prior to testing.
- Take testing to physician immediately following for interpretation and potential office visit.
- Keep both labs fully stocked with all supplies needed for testing.
- Inform Practice Administrator of any critical needs such as large orders of filters, Albuterol, tubing.
- Inform physicians and Practice Administrator of any issues with the PFT machines or computer links. All machine repairs or parts must be approved prior to ordering.
- The lab must be kept clean and dust free, all garbage is to be taken out daily, machines, tables, chairs are to be cleaned. The floors are to be kept swept and clean.
- The technician must check with the providers at the end of the day prior to leaving if there is anything else needed or pending.
- Technician is responsible also for Six minute testing and Oxygen qualifications.
- Greet the patient by their last name, eg. Mr. Smith and take the patient’s vitals.
- Weight, blood pressure, pulse oximeter, current medications.
- Review the last medical record for testing ordered and obtain hospital and consult records and testing.
- Six minute walk tests, two minute walk tests upon requests from the physicians.
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree in respiratory care or related on year program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). Or
- Must pass the NBRC's Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) exam.
- Minimum 1-2 years experience preferred; willing to train if certified.
- Excellent communication both verbal and in writing.
CERTIFICATIONS/ LICENSES
- Certified respiratory therapist (CRT) credential required.
