Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Retina Technician to join our specialized ophthalmology practice. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional technical support for retinal examinations and procedures while delivering outstanding patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive retinal imaging including OCT, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, and autofluorescence
- Conduct visual field testing and other specialized diagnostic procedures
- Assist physicians with intravitreal injections and in office procedures
- Obtain detailed patient histories and document findings accurately in EMR systems
- Prepare patients for examinations and explain procedures to ensure comfort and compliance
- Maintain and calibrate diagnostic equipment according to manufacturer specifications
- Ensure proper sterilization and infection control protocols are followed
- Coordinate patient flow and appointment scheduling as needed
- Provide patient education regarding post-procedure care and follow-up instructions
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years experience in ophthalmology or retina specialty practice
- Proficiency with OCT, OPTOS, fundus cameras, and fluorescein angiography equipment
- Strong knowledge of retinal anatomy and pathology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- EMR experience preferred (Nextech, or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) certification
- Previous experience with anti-VEGF injections and retinal procedures
- Bilingual capabilities (Spanish preferred)
- Experience with practice management software
