Sanitation Technician (Driver)

This is lead supervisory and participatory work in the operation of motorized sanitation equipment, as well as providing a broad range of important sanitation services. Work involves operation of rear loader solid waste collection trucks, dump trucks, backhoes and pay loaders; operation of specialized automotive type cleaning equipment; the coordination of minor maintenance and routine servicing activities to include checking and adding oil, filling the fuel tank, and checking tire inflation and fluid levels; some manual work using small tools and equipment such as rakes and shovels to complete specific cleaning assignments; manual lifting of household discards such as furniture and appliances; and operating spraying equipment to address odorous and unsanitary conditions. This position will occasionally be scheduled to work holidays, weekends, and evening shifts.

Salary: $23.02 - $32.63 Hourly

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

• Possess and continue to maintain a valid State of Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver License.

• Have some experience in the operation and routine servicing of sanitation collection equipment.

• Be able to maintain routine written records and reports of activities.

• Be able to work holidays, weekends, and evening shifts on occasion.

• Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.

• Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

• Preferred applicants possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.

• Have considerable knowledge of a wide variety of sanitation support activities.

• Have some knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.

• Are skilled in the safe operation of sanitation vehicles and equipment.

• Have some experience supervising a small work crew.
