Overview
As the Senior Staff Software Engineer for Scout Motor’s digital products organization, you will play a key role in the development and enhancement of our software products, from concept to deployment. Some of the key products as part of digital portfolio are – mobile and desktop applications, vehicle connectivity solutions, mapping services, production, inventory and planning optimization, servicing and repairs, and more. You will work with engineering managers, staff engineers, and cross-functional partners to design the technical underpinnings of the product. At the same time, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to be hands-on building key systems and will be directly responsible for the successful delivery of complex and large-scale technical efforts as well acting as a technical mentor and leader for other engineers.
What you’ll do
Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:
- Architect, design, and develop scalable and performant front-end applications for web and mobile platforms.
- Define and drive implementation of best practices in front-end development, including accessibility, security, testing, performance, and maintainability.
- Lead and mentor engineers across multiple squads, fostering growth and raising the technical bar for front-end engineering.
- Work with Design and Product teams to deliver seamless and delightful user experiences while balancing technical feasibility and scalability.
- Make critical decisions on frameworks, tooling, and component architecture to support long-term code health and efficiency.
- Contribute to the technical roadmap, ensure alignment with business goals, and guide major initiatives from concept to launch.
- Collaborate with backend and platform engineers to ensure smooth integration and consistency across the digital stack.
- Be a hands-on contributor while influencing engineering culture and processes across the team.
Location & Travel Expectations:
- This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Fremont, California.
- The responsibilities of this role require 2 days per week attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

- Education/Certifications: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field
- Years of Experience required in type of role: 15+ years in software development and experience with scaling software products, with 5+ years in technical leadership roles focused on front-end development
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Deep expertise with popular tools/frameworks and libraries such as React.js, WebGL, GSAP, Framer, Stro, etc., along with knowledge of their ecosystem and best practices, is required.
- Expertise in micro-frontend architecture and its practical application in large-scale systems.
- Proven ability to define and drive the architectural direction for large-scale front-end systems, with extensive experience building complex applications that consume GraphQL, RESTful, and RPC APIs—ensuring long-term scalability, maintainability, and performance.
- Deep knowledge of UI/UX design principles, responsive/mobile-first design, SEO, accessibility (WCAG), and performance optimization.
- Exposure to analytics, experimentation platforms, and feature flagging tools.
- Deep understanding of robust branching strategies, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks (Playwright, Cypress), and cloud environments (AWS preferred).
- Significant contribution to technical roadmaps and strategic planning, ensuring front-end initiatives align with overall business objectives and technology vision.
- Experience operating in start-up settings, launching 0 to 1 product
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a passion for finding elegant solutions to complex challenges
- Optional/suggestions:
- Prior experience working experience in a manufacturing or automotive environment · Deep understanding and practical experience in identifying, mitigating, and preventing common web application security vulnerabilities, aligning with the OWASP Top 10 risks (e.g., Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF), Broken Access Control, Injection flaws). This includes a strong command of security best practices, secure coding principles, and experience integrating security into the development lifecycle.
- Experience building mobile apps or backend services

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial base salary range = $220,000.00 - $250,000.00
