Job Announcement

Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise (CNE) makes strategic investments in people and real estate to create and sustain healthy neighborhoods. CNE’s mission is to create economically diverse neighborhoods filled with financially empowered citizens and housing for all. CNE works in neighborhoods with some of the least expensive housing in Chattanooga where some of the

most vulnerable live. As we strive for equitable development, CNE wants to bring focus to engagement and power-building among residents to influence the conditions and policies that impact

where they live and within the broader community and to build a sense of belonging which leads to shared purpose and collective action.

CNE is seeking a community organizer to organize, educate, and empower marginalized individuals and communities, including our immigrant community by: 1.) fostering the development of leadership and advocacy skills among residents; 2) supporting the growth of relationships and community identity among residents; 3). supporting residents as they identify issues of mutual concern; and 4). supporting resident advocacy for policy at multiple levels within the community (e.g. landlord, school officials, city council, state legislators, benefit officers) to improve their lives.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

· Engage residents through one-on-ones, celebrations and events that create and build a network of community members to encourage and support resident’s participation in activities and a sense of community.

· Provide training and information on key community issues, advocacy skills, facilitation and group leadership skills

· Assist Healthy Neighborhood Manager and VP of NICE in design and support of campaigns to change policy and conditions that improve the lives of residents in neighborhoods served.

· Refer individuals who require support in accessing resources and/or building self-reliance through coaching, case management and programs to the appropriate service provider

· Create communication and promotional literature for distribution, such as newsletters, brochures or flyers in Spanish and English.

· Bridge and foster partnerships with the community, relevant organizations and elected officials that support community goals

· Develop and maintain effective communication between CNE and the community

· Pick up materials for events

· Work frequent night meetings and weekend events.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

· Bilingual required in Spanish and English written and spoken

· Strong cultural humility with the ability to work effectively in an environment with diverse cultures, multiple perspectives, and competing needs.

· Demonstrates a commitment to recognizing resident’s knowledge and power.

· Works collaboratively with others in a team environment, respecting and valuing the perspectives and contributions of others.

· Develops effective working partnerships with residents, faith-based organizations, educational, nonprofit organizations and community groups.

· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

· Strong passion and ability for advocacy, sustainable community development, and equitable outcomes a must

· Demonstrates a high level of verbal, writing, and listening skills.

· Proficient with MS Office (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).

· Fluent in the use of various cell phone and social media communication tools and platforms.

Education/Experience

Experience working with structurally marginalized populations and familiar

with community organizing strategies. Experience in neighborhood organizing focused on community development issues such as housing and economic development is a plus.

Salary: $38,000-$48,000/year DOE, Comprehensive Benefit Package
