General Summary:
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing a wide range of healthcare services to inmates at the Huron County Corrections Facility under the supervision of the Director of Ambulatory Nursing and Home Health. Primary responsibilities include: working collaboratively with the physician in the treatment of illness and injury, providing preventive care, providing assistance during physical examination, assisting with medical surveillance, overseeing medication distribution, and providing health and medical education. In addition, the Registered Nurse is expected to respond to emergent situations occurring during their shift, perform administrative tasks as required, and delegate tasks as indicated within scope of practice.
Essential Functions:
- Reports to Department Director and follows orders of the Huron County Jail Medical Director.
- Triaging illnesses/injuries based on inmate's complaints and face to face assessments and referring to physician as appropriate, and providing wound care or other first aid as needed.
- Following established protocols or department procedures.
- RN may pass oral medications, give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections. Administers drugs under the direction of the Medical Director and documents on MAR.
- Assists in providing vaccines to patients following written physician orders.
- Implements physician orders in a timely manner and documentation of same. Communicates frequently with Medical Director providing care.
- Acting as a resource person for and providing healthcare education to staff and inmates.
- Collecting and documenting objective/subjective data (SOAP method).
- Administering and interpreting TB skin tests to staff and inmates.
- Reviewing initial medical screening of inmates, interviewing inmates regarding health history and current status determining medical appropriateness into the jail.
- Maintaining controlled substance and sharps counts.
- Other duties as assigned
Education
Required- Associates or better in Nursing
Licenses & Certifications
Preferred- Certification CPR
- Driver's License
- Registered Nurse
