Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Standards Project Manager within our Building & Life Safety Technology (BLST) program at UL Standards & Engagement. This is a hybrid opportunity based in Evanston, IL OR Raleigh-Durham, NC OR Ottawa, CAN offices.
The Standards Project Manager (BLST) will support a portfolio of standards focused on building material and life safety products, and drive the development and implementation of safety standards projects to advance the mission of UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) to make the world safer, more secure, and sustainable. The Standards Project Manager will leverage project management experience to facilitate the development and maintenance of standards, and manage activities throughout the project lifecycle, coordinating interdependencies and driving collaboration across teams to ensure seamless execution and successful project outcomes.

What you’ll learn and achieve:
As the Standards Project Manager (BLST), you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:
  • Manage standards activities to enable the development, implementation and continuous improvement of safety standards.
  • Lead project segments and proactively forecast project needs. Plan and execute activities across the project lifecycle and ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
  • Leverage understanding of standards development processes and stakeholders to resolve difficult or systematic problems. Apply end-to-end solutions and implement proactive strategies to address issues that require detailed information gathering and analysis.
  • Drive collaboration within the team to ensure team-level goal achievement and enable success in effective execution of standards activities.
  • Organize and present information to internal and external stakeholders. Support increasingly complex technical committees and other internal or external activities.
  • Identify opportunities for program expansion, ensure the continuous evolution and relevance of safety standards and create capacity for new high-impact standards.
  • Maintain continued awareness of industry trends and external context related to the portfolio. Stay current with regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks governing public safety.
  • Independently execute tasks and proactively mitigate risk or improve outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience analyzing and resolving issues, optimizing task execution, and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Strong communication and engagement skills, with ability to effectively communicate project goals, requirements and progress to various stakeholder groups.
  • Positive and collaborative interpersonal skills, with proven capability in fostering collaboration and partnership across teams.

Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience.
