Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. This role involves assessing clients' needs, developing treatment plans, and facilitating group therapy sessions. The Substance Abuse Counselor will work collaboratively with clients to promote recovery and improve their overall mental health and well-being.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive diagnostic evaluations to assess clients' substance use and mental health needs, including DUI evaluations.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and client goals.
- Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions, continued stay reviews, and discharge sessions to provide support, education, and coping strategies for clients.
- Implement crisis intervention techniques as needed to ensure client safety and stability.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to encourage clients' engagement in their recovery process.
- Provide behavioral health counseling to address underlying issues related to substance abuse.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client progress, treatment plans, and any changes in behavior or condition.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and resources for clients.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in substance abuse treatment.
Requirements
- Illinois Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor is required.
- Experience in crisis intervention and behavioral management is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with DSM-5 Substance Use Disorders is required.
- Strong skills in group therapy facilitation and mental health counseling are essential.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- A commitment to providing compassionate care while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
