POSITION TITLE:
Supervisor, Child Nutrition
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: Assist the Assistant Director of Child Nutrition with the implementation and compliance of the food service operation by providing technical assistance and support to campus managers. Provide program assistance in the area of nutrition education, menu planning, and quality control, with support as needed in the area of special functions and caterings.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Ensure all school cafeterias follow federal, state and local policies, practices, and procedures of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs and Lamar Consolidated ISD.
- Ensure all cafeterias prepare and serve the highest quality food and provide the highest quality service.
- Coordinate food production, quality and portion control, and sanitation in the schools.
- Be willing and able to assist in meal production, service, and clean-up if an emergency arises. Fill in for managers as needed.
- Demonstrate on a daily basis support, loyalty, and a positive attitude toward LCISD objectives.
- Aid in the development of menus and recipes.
- Assist with selection of food service products and supplies.
- Supervise and monitor records of food and supplies in the kitchens.
- Aid in planning, promoting and exercising standards of safety and sanitation.
- Help with interviewing, screening and recommending of applicants for employment.
- Assist in developing employee work schedules.
- Assume responsibility for planning and providing employee training.
- Help with the planning, supervision and record-keeping of special activities.
- Correct unsafe conditions that may exist in the work area that could cause an accident. Any conditions that are not correctable by you are to be reported to the supervisor immediately.
- Know and practice the proper safety procedures in operating machinery and equipment as required for the job.
- Know and practice safety techniques in lifting, climbing and performing other job duties.
- Attendance at work is an essential function.
- Other duties assigned by the Assistant Director of Child Nutrition or designee.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
- Three years of experience in food service management
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. with a strong understanding of the child nutrition program, food management, nutrition, or related field, with an emphasis on nutrition education, or equivalent experience in a related field
- Bachelor’s degree in related field strongly preferred
- Certification by Texas Association of School Nutrition preferred
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of all Federal and State school lunch and breakfast regulations
- Ability to read and understand instructions for food preparation and safety procedures
- Possess people management and motivation skills
- Experience in using computers and ten-key skills
- Bilingual preferred
OTHER INFORMATION:
Equipment Used: Large and small kitchen equipment to include electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, deep-fat fryer, vegetable cutters, sharp cutting tools, ovens, dishwashers, food/utility carts and ladders. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), pushing (intermittent), reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking (intermittent), standing (intermittent), kneeling (intermittent), repeated bending (intermittent), climbing (intermittent), specific visual requirements (reading product labels, directions/equipment operation), specific hearing requirement (oral and telephone conversations). Excessive heat, cold and humidity; excessive dampness or chilling, excessive noise (intermittent), fumes, solvents, works around machinery with moving parts, working on ladders or scaffolding, working with hands in water.
