Coastal Alaska Premier Seafoods, a subsidiary of Coastal Villages Region Fund, is currently seeking applications for a Surimi Technician to work aboard the F/T Northern Hawk. The primary responsibilities of the Surimi Technician include, but are not limited to, assisting in the operating and routine maintenance on all machinery and equipment used to produce surimi aboard his/her assigned vessel. This individual is expected to have a good working understanding of all aspects of surimi production and quality requirements outlined in CAPS Product Specifications and to have some knowledge of customer’s expectations.
Specific Duties Include:
- Day-to-day operation of the Surimi Factory during his/her shift under the direction of the Surimi Operator.
- Operation, routine maintenance, and repair of surimi processing equipment as directed, with a balanced focus between product quality and throughput.
- Attends daily Surimi Staff meetings onboard the vessel and is on duty during shifts as specified by the Factory Manager.
- Actively participates in all new Surimi processing developments and projects onboard his/her vessel.
- Attends off-season Surimi Staff meetings and company sponsored training programs as directed.
- Strictly enforce and uphold all company policies and support company philosophy.
- Other duties as assigned
This position reports directly to the Factory Manager - Seasonal Crew Contract

Requirements:KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must demonstrate a minimum of 2 years factory trawl experience in an equivalent surimi department.
- The Surimi Technician position requires a good understanding of the surimi production process.
- Good mechanical skills are required.
- Good analytical skills are highly desired.
- Leadership experience is recommended with experience working with highly diverse ethnic groups, including Japanese.
- Must demonstrate excellent supervisory and teambuilding skills.
- Must possess and exhibit excellent leadership abilities, including interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation.
- Inventory tracking and ordering parts for the department.
- Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have good understanding of all surimi operating equipment.
- Must be punctual, organized, and able to work under stressful conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to pass pre-employment and unannounced random drug tests.
- Must be capable of boarding and exiting a vessel without physical assistance by climbing up and down a gangplank or using a Jacob’s ladder.
- Must climb or descend one or more sets of steep stairs, or vertical ladders inside and outside the vessel in all weather conditions as extreme as 30 degrees below zero.
- Ability to repetitively lift boxes up to 55 pounds in weight for long periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- 12 hours or more per day for the duration of the trip, including loading and unloading.
- Ability to work at sea for extended periods of time.
