Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Tool & Die Repair Technician to join our automotive engineering team. This role involves repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining casting and trim dies to original specifications while ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and experienced in troubleshooting and maintaining precision tooling.
Key Responsibilities
- Repair, rebuild, and maintain casting and trim dies using appropriate machines, tools, and equipment.
- Transport, clean, disassemble, repair, and reassemble dies using lift trucks, cranes, and die cleaning equipment.
- Fabricate and replace segments, cores, and parts from blueprints.
- Polish, grind, and finish die cavity surfaces.
- Perform welding tasks in both the foundry and die repair department.
- Troubleshoot and correct dimensional problems, remove stuck castings, and adjust trim punches while dies are mounted.
- Maintain accurate records, including work orders, reports, and documentation.
- Train and mentor new employees as needed.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned to support department operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Associate Degree, Trade/Technical School, or Journeyperson Certificate.
- Up to 2 years of hands-on tool & die repair experience (or completion of a 2-year on-the-job training program).
- Proficiency in polishing, grinding, welding, and blueprint reading.
- Ability to perform highly skilled tasks and resolve complex mechanical problems.
Nice to Have
- Tool & Die Repair Journeyman Papers (preferred, but not required).
