KCDC is the largest and most technologically advanced Court of Limited Jurisdiction in the State of Washington. It currently processes approximately 200,000 matters per year with 25 elected judges and roughly 260 employees at 8 courthouse locations. The Court is a leader in many areas involving public safety and access to justice, including the use of problem-solving courts, jail-alternative programs, technology- and judge-managed probation services. Twelve cities contract with King County for court services provided by KCDC.

Position Summary
King County District Court has an opening for one Training Consultant whose primary, responsibilities include the development and implementation of training materials for new and established District Court employees. This position will be part of a team that designs, plans, organizes, coordinates, schedules, and conducts training which will enhance or develop the required technical skill of District Court employees. The individual will work in a fast-paced and high-tech environment consisting of being at a desk with the possibility of multiple computer screens to utilize. The Training Consultant will use a variety of tools including Articulate 360, Microsoft Office Tools, open-source media, internet, and in-house tools.

Job Duties

  • Designs, plans, organizes, coordinates, schedules, and conducts training and develops curriculum content—in- person, virtual, web-based—which will enhance or develop the required technical skill of District Court employees.
  • Develop, write, and collaborate regarding court-related processes and procedures.
  • Designs learning activities, assignments, and assessments to create effective learning experiences and environments.
  • Edit content to bring it into alignment with updates, and with overall training plan and process objectives. Demonstrates knowledge of the procedures for processing all court-related case types and functions.
  • Works and provides training at all District Court locations.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of training efforts via evaluations, surveys, and other methods.
  • Recommends and implements process and training improvements.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all KCDC stakeholders, including Judges, staff at all levels of the organization, criminal justice agencies, other county agencies and the public.

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar position, including but not limited to instructional design or classroom instruction.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with colleagues at all levels of the organization, including Judicial Officers and external customers.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, take initiative, apply creativity and to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to welcome and accept feedback to continuously improve leadership skills.
  • Ability to build and sustain inclusive and equitable teams through employee engagement, performance management and development in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to analyze, problem solve, and plan operational needs.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures and laws pertaining to the operation of the courts.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and resolve conflict at the lowest level in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly express ideas and information.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study, including but not limited to instructional design, education, public administration, business administration, human resources, or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities of the job.
  • Proficiency with training and educational program and content management systems.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with recognized E-learning technical standards

  • Work location:You may be assigned to work at any District Court location which include: Shoreline, Seattle, Redmond, Issaquah, Bellevue, Burien, Auburn or Kent (MRJC). Employees must reside in Washington state and within commuting distance to the King County Courthouse to meet sporadic workplace reporting requirements.
  • Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and move and/or lift up to 10 pounds. The vision abilities required to perform this position include close vision.
  • Working Conditions:Work is typically performed in an office environment with a moderate amount of noise (computers, printers, light traffic). This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
