Position Summary:
The Training Manager will build and lead the development, implementation, and management of the company-wide training and competency program for all field and office personnel. This position will design and deliver structured training pathways across departments, with a focus on technical skills, safety compliance, leadership development, and onboarding.
The Training Manager will work in close coordination with the EHS Manager, Operations, HR, and department leaders to ensure that all employees are equipped with the required knowledge, certifications, and skills to meet performance and safety standards across Virtus’s growing utility-scale solar and battery storage projects.
This role is ideal for a learning & development professional with experience building programs from the ground up in a construction, energy, or field operations environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Training Program Design & Delivery
- Build and scale a comprehensive training program aligned with Virtus’s operational, safety, and technical performance goals.
- Develop and maintain job-specific training curricula for Field Technicians, Superintendents, QA/QC, Safety, and Administrative staff.
- Deliver and/or facilitate live trainings, virtual instruction, field-based demos, and competency assessments.
- Integrate technical vendor certifications (inverters, BESS, tools) into internal training modules.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Partner with the EHS Manager to ensure all safety training (e.g., OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, First Aid/CPR, Arc Flash) is up to date and fully documented.
- Monitor training compliance across the company and assist in audit preparation and documentation.
- Track required training renewals and refresher schedules.
Learning Management & Evaluation
- Select and manage a Learning Management System (LMS) or training database.
- Track participation, certifications, and evaluation data across all employees.
- Analyze training effectiveness and recommend improvements or adjustments based on performance metrics, feedback, and compliance gaps.
Onboarding & Workforce Development
- Develop structured onboarding programs for new hires by role and department.
- Coordinate cross-training initiatives to expand internal workforce flexibility.
- Support leadership development programs for managers, supervisors, and high-potential employees.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with HR and Operations to forecast training needs related to hiring, promotions, and new contracts.
- Align training content with real-time field operations and customer requirements.
- Maintain a strong presence in the field to assess knowledge gaps and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in corporate training, workforce development, or instructional design, ideally in the solar, construction, utilities, or heavy industry sectors.
- Strong understanding of safety training requirements (OSHA, NFPA 70E, etc.) and field operations needs.
- Experience building training programs from scratch, including course design, scheduling, and evaluation.
- Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and facilitation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, LMS platforms (e.g., TalentLMS, Litmos), and document tracking systems.
- Ability to travel up to 30% for site-based training, field audits, and program implementation.
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Resources, Occupational Safety, or a related field required.
- OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR required (or must be obtained within 60 days of hire).
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP), or similar credentials preferred.
