As part of our international growth, we are launching a new campus in Jacksonville, Florida, and planning an expansion into Malta. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced University Librarian to develop and lead our academic library services during this exciting phase of growth.
Position Summary:
The University Librarian will oversee all aspects of library operations, including collection acquisition and development, budgeting, staff management, digital resource accessibility, technology adoption, website development, and strategic planning. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, innovative, and forward-thinking leader with a proven ability to manage and enhance the vision of a modern academic research library in a remote learning environment.
Specific Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily life cycle of electronic resources, including licensing, activation, discovery, access, and maintenance.
- Review, negotiate, and manage licenses to secure favorable pricing and terms.
- Maintain accurate holdings, licensing, and vendor records.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electronic resource access issues to ensure uninterrupted usability for students, faculty, and staff.
- Collaborate with the Chief Academic Officer to develop current and future collection strategies.
- Design, document, and implement workflows to streamline e-resource management and improve user access.
- Collect, analyze, and report electronic resource usage data to guide acquisitions and collection development.
- Manage statewide and shared collections through partnerships and consortia, ensuring resources are available to users.
- Renew online journal packages, databases, e-book collections, and streaming media subscriptions.
- Train and guide students and academic staff in library resource usage and management.
- Serve as library faculty liaison to an assigned academic department.
- Participate in library, university, regional, and professional organization committees.
- Contribute to high-quality research and/or creative initiatives in electronic resources and collection management.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer or designated supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master of Arts in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an accredited institution (required).
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a librarian in a university or higher education setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a remote or hybrid environment.
- Strong knowledge of emerging trends in academic library services, including technology integration.
- Proven leadership in recruiting, managing, and developing library staff.
- Experience with budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation.
- Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in library services.
- Knowledge of special collections, archives, and academic research support.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Contract Status:
This is a part-time, contract-based position that will commence following approval from the Florida Commission for Independent Education (CIE). Upon successful launch of the Jacksonville campus, there may be an opportunity for this position to transition into a full-time role.
