Veterinary Technician - At least three years of experience is required, with two professional references regarding professionalism and skill set.
JOB SUMMARY - Spay & Neuter Clinic
Assist with the operations of our spay & neuter clinic per nationwide standards and WCHS set policies and procedures, which may include the following: Schedule both shelter and public animals. Organize and train staff and volunteers per protocol. Prep cats and dogs for surgery. Observe animals through surgery and recovery. Perform standard vet tech duties as seen fit by the Veterinarian and clinic manager.
Shelter - Assist/Perform intake examinations, assess the overall health & well being of each animal continually, seeking veterinarian attention as needed. Perform viral testing, administer vaccines, microchips, and obtain blood samples. Perform daily rounds, guide staff in medical protocols such as deworming, and other duties as directed by the Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Assist with any of the following, at the direction of the Manager:
· Communicate with customers via the phone and in person about vaccinations, surgery related issues, post op instructions
· Prep, monitor and transport patients throughout the surgical workflow (from carriers to kennels, from kennel to prep table, from prep table to the surgical table, from surgical table to the recovery area, from the recovery area, to the kennels, from kennels back into carriers).
· Properly handle animals at all times during transporting to various areas and while restraining animals.
· Shaving, sterilizing, expressing bladders, intubation for preparation for surgery.
· Maintain proper medical records which include but are not limited to surgical records, prescriptions, drug logs, etc.
· Monitor recovering animals.
· Clean kennels by following WCHS’ cleaning standards/protocols.
· Compile sterile surgical packs, follow proper autoclave procedures.
· Draw blood/ process specimens for lab pickup, administer fluids, give injections of all types.
· Monitor equipment and report problems to the Manager.
· Cleaning, mopping, laundry.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
Ability to follow well established medical protocols
· Advanced organization skills
Ability to use Shelter Manager Software System
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Intermediate mathematical skills
