VP of Oncology Svc Line

Description:

JOB PURPOSE:
In partnership with the Chief of Piedmont Oncology, this position is responsible for system leadership, strategic and operational direction, administration, and management of all elements of oncology care and its alignment with innovation and discovery across Piedmont Healthcare. This includes partnering with all Piedmont Healthcare entities relevant to oncology care to assure the highest level of care is provided to all cancer patients seen across the system and to deploy resources to reduce the burden of cancer on all populations aligned with Piedmont Healthcare. This charge includes improving and expanding the activities of employed oncology-related provider operations in Piedmont Healthcare & the Physician Enterprise. Support systemwide development and implementation of Piedmont Oncologys strategic vision and overall direction, including: opportunities for system market expansion and growth, acquisitions, and efficient high-quality performance throughout Piedmont Oncology. This position will report to the Chief of Piedmont Oncology and will serve as the senior administrative leader, accountable for Piedmont Oncologys overall development and performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program Development and Implementation.
    In conjunction with the Piedmont Oncology Chief:
    a. Is responsible for ensuring a consistent Piedmont Oncology brand and comprehensive, integrated care experience across the organization.
    b. Partners with PHC hospital administrators and local entity oncology operational leaders to coordinate and facilitate the system-wide strategy for oncology that delivers a high-quality consistent care experience, while serving the unique needs of our local communities.
    c. Helps expand and maintain a highly aligned and engaged group of highest quality physicians, representing all major cancer disciplines.
    d. Responsible for the development and maturation of oncology-focused supportive services, external partnerships, and clinical research.
    e. Partners with the relevant strategic resources within Piedmont Healthcare to develop and implement specific programs, products, and services to support the long-range direction for Piedmont Oncology.
    f. Works with relevant entities and leaders across Piedmont Healthcare to support and prioritize capital and operational needs in oncology-related areas, including radiation oncology, imaging. surgical oncology, and infusion therapies.
    g. Coordinates system standardization of oncology treatment policies, procedures, processes and protocols for relevant services in order to create a high-quality, efficient, patient centered experience across the healthcare system.
    h. Serves as the administrative leader of Piedmont Oncologys Executive Committee and Steering Committees.
    i. Serves as the administrative leader of the Piedmont Oncology Clinical Governance Council.
    j. Supports the prioritization of new Piedmont Oncology priorities and opportunities and engages appropriate stakeholders.
  • Provider & Staff Management
    a. Work with the operational staff on all Piedmont Oncology clinical operations and improvements. These include:
    • Partners with HR and Provider Recruitment for development and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies for oncology-related practices.
    • Oversees Practice Operations Directors to efficiently manage employed practice operations.
    • Works closely with Piedmont Oncology Chief and site Medical Directors on resolution of provider concerns, patient issues and other operational opportunities.
    • Demonstrates accessibility to the physicians and other leaders, and effectively addresses care and service issues as they arise.
    • Coordinates activities with and works collaboratively in professional matters related to physician performance with the PE and hospital leadership teams.
    • Responsible for leading activities among physicians and various designated operating divisions and departments to facilitate delivery of high-quality patient care and services, while focusing on efficiency in operations and opportunities.
    • In collaboration with clinical leadership, ensures that patient access is available at the highest reasonable level.
    • Drives and manages compensation plans in partnership with corporate compensation teams.
  • Performance Management
    a. Coordinates activities among various designated operating divisions to facilitate delivery of high-quality patient care and services, while focusing on efficiency in operations and opportunities for cost reduction.
    b. Leverages complex decision support systems such as productivity, financial, market and comparative databases to evaluate performance effectiveness and develop new opportunities for growth and optimization.
    c. Assists the finance team with the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets within designated guidelines and routinely monitors progress in achieving overall financial goals.
    d. Reviews ongoing financial and operational reports for budget variances and implements opportunities for improvement.
    e. Manages and monitors the performance of outsource vendors to ensure optimal reporting and efficiencies.
    f. Works closely with respective leaders to assess and improve departmental performance.
    g. Interprets and effectively administers policies in order to carry out organizational objectives.
    h. Collaborates with other System functions such as HR, Real Estate, PMO, IT, Revenue Cycle, etc. on execution of projects and related measurements.
  • Communication
    a. Keeps service line leadership & hospital executive leadership abreast of significant operational issues and problems, and formulates recommended actions and solutions.
    b. Maintains high visibility - is an approachable, credible leader; understands organizational behavior and serves as a change-agent.
    c. Acts as a liaison with System & Physician Enterprise executive teams to clarify operating rules, structures and policies.

  • Knowledge of current leadership, management, cost control and performance improvement concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge and experience in matters related to physician recruitment, retention and compensation.
  • Ability to creatively operate in a team environment, to pay attention to details, and to multi-task.
Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree from a recognized college or university in business administration, healthcare administration or a closely related field required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible work experience in a senior management position in a medical practice setting, healthcare administration or a closely related field is required.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
None.


ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Post-graduate degree in healthcare or business administration preferred. Five (5) years in managing oncology-related activities is preferred.
