As a Workers' Compensation Claims Technician, you will help people resolve problems by delivering excellent customer service to a wide range of individuals, including injured workers, employers, medical personnel, attorneys, and agents. This role offers variety in both the people you interact with and the cases you handle, including disputed and litigated claims. You’ll use your investigative and negotiation skills in a fast-paced environment while helping protect the assets of the company. Responsibilities:

  • Conduct investigations, including but not limited to assessing policy coverage, contacting insureds, injured workers, doctors' offices, and other parties to determine compensability and establish reserves.
  • Set up claims and update the loss to reflect actual circumstances.
  • Determine the need for independent adjusters or independent medical examiners.
  • Evaluate claim for potential fraud.
  • Assess actual damages associated with claims and conduct negotiations to settle claims.
  • Be involved with litigated claims as necessary.


This is a hybrid position with location-based exceptions. If you live within 50 miles of our offices in Lake Oswego, OR, or Chandler, AZ, you’ll be expected to work onsite twice per month. If you’re located in California, the role is fully remote. Please note that this policy may evolve based on business needs.


These positions may be filled as either Workers' Compensation Claims Technician or Senior Workers' Compensation Claims Technician. The salary range posted reflects the range for the varying pay scale across various locations.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma plus 1-3 years' of related customer service experience or applicable insurance knowledge.
  • Licensing required in some states.
  • Effective analytical skills required to learn and apply basic policy/contract coverage and recognize questionable coverage/contract situations (which necessitate supervisory involvement) along with effective interpersonal skills to explain the facts and logic used to arrive at decisions in a way that the customer understands.
  • Effective written skills to compose clear, succinct descriptions when posting files and drafting correspondence.
  • Good telephone and typing skills required.
  • Ability to learn when to make proper use of medical management resources, know when to use them and follow through with medical management information received.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
