GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Youth Specialist operates within the agency’s Outreach and Prevention team. This position is responsible for serving at-risk youth and victims of crime by providing case management and advocacy services in Eastern and mid- Riverside County. This position includes travel, community outreach, and preventative education requirements. Services are provided in a progressive non-profit agency committed to serving individuals that are at risk or have experienced violence.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Perform confidential and trauma informed needs assessment, risk assessments, case management, and resource and referral assistance to victims of crime/at risk youth.
- Advocate for victims within multiple systems including but not limited to: District Attorney, Family Law, Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, and Social Service agencies.
- Adhere to child abuse mandated reporting requirements
- Complete in-depth phone screenings and preliminary intakes with individuals accessing services and develop a service plan.
- Meet with walk-in and scheduled clients, and occasionally respond to hospitals, law enforcement agencies when emergency requests for assistance are received.
- Provide direct restraining order assistance to eligible clients and court accompaniment.
- Conduct intake screening for Trinity Safe house Shelter.
- Work cooperatively with other agencies and individuals involved with the client to ensure comprehensive service delivery to the victim and non-offending care providers.
- Maintain client confidentiality, as requested by clients and dictated by professional ethics.
- Facilitate youth, teen, and domestic violence education groups.
- Provide court support (court accompaniment for clients) to victims, as needed.
- Maintain client files and ensure that all appropriate documentation is represented in each file and cases must be maintained in audit condition.
- Regularly attend outreach events, resource fairs and community meeting to educate and provide awareness about the agencies programs.
- Maintain ongoing excellent communication with supervisor keeping them informed of case status/caseload.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with guidance while also working as a member of our agency’s overall team.
- Must be able to provide culturally sensitive outreach, guidance, support and resources.
- Assist victims in completing the necessary paperwork to obtain needed services.
- Educate clients of the legal system, generic resources and also work collaboratively with community partners within the Family Justice Centers and in the community.
- Ability to advocate assertively on the victim’s behalf while keeping communication with clients confidential.
- Must have a clear understanding on the dynamic of abusive relationships, and the psychological impact of abuse on victims and children.
- Ability to understand, be sensitive to, and have empathy for others.
- Ability to develop trusting empowering relationships and to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Must be able to intervene in crisis situations, using sound professional judgement, ethical practice, and common sense.
- Participate as a member of the SAFE training team for Domestic Violence Advocate 40 hour training.
- Complete other duties as required and assigned.

Pay: $24.00 - $29.00 per hour
