Community Living Services Manager

NewDirection Care | Bellmere, QLD

  • Lead the services and environment that bring our community to life
  • Oversee hospitality, retail, facilities, gardens, cleaning and contractors
  • Ideal for an experienced hotel, retirement village or holiday park manager

Bring a whole community to life

Are you an experienced operational leader who knows how to create a welcoming environment, deliver excellent service and keep a busy community running smoothly?

NewDirection Care is seeking a Community Living Services Manager to lead the services and physical environment that support everyday life within our unique MICRO TOWN® residential aged-care community in Bellmere.

This is a diverse, hands-on leadership role overseeing our Café, Corner Store, Hairdresser, Maintenance, Gardening and Cleaning services. You will help ensure our community is safe, vibrant, well presented and responsive to the needs of residents, families, employees and visitors.

You do not need to come from aged care. Your experience may have been gained managing a hotel, retirement village, community living environment, large caravan or holiday park, resort, hospitality venue or another complex site with multiple customer-facing services.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager and forming part of the NewDirection Care management team, you will lead both the everyday delivery and longer-term development of our community services.

A key focus will be creating a lively and welcoming Main Precinct where residents, families, employees and community visitors can enjoy the Café, Corner Store, Hairdresser and shared spaces as part of ordinary daily life.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the day-to-day operation of the Café, Corner Store and Hairdresser
  • Developing the Café as a contemporary, vibrant and commercially sustainable seven-day service
  • Maintaining high standards of customer service, presentation, accessibility and cleanliness
  • Managing staffing, rosters, stock, suppliers, budgets, pricing and service performance
  • Monitoring revenue, costs, margins, customer use and opportunities for sustainable growth
  • Reviewing products and services to reflect resident choice, nutritional priorities and customer demand
  • Overseeing planned and reactive maintenance across buildings, equipment and community amenities
  • Maintaining asset registers, inspection records and preventative maintenance schedules
  • Managing the annual maintenance operating budget and developing capital expenditure plans for site infrastructure and equipment
  • Leading gardening and grounds presentation across the community
  • Overseeing cleaning programs, including scheduled deep cleaning
  • Recruiting, coaching and performance-managing employees within your service areas
  • Managing contractors, site access, inductions, permits and safety requirements
  • Maintaining safe systems of work across food service, salon operations, cleaning, equipment, fire safety and building maintenance
  • Conducting inspections and risk reviews and ensuring incidents, hazards, complaints and corrective actions are followed through
  • Supporting emergency planning, audits, accreditation and continuous improvement
  • Working collaboratively with clinical, lifestyle, wellness, admissions, quality, finance and house-based teams
  • Seeking feedback from residents, families, employees and visitors and using it to improve the community experience

About you

You are an organised and visible leader who enjoys variety and takes pride in creating environments where people feel welcome, supported and well looked after.

You understand that excellent service is shaped by the small everyday details, from how a customer is greeted and how a shared space is presented to whether maintenance concerns are followed up promptly.

You will bring:

  • Experience managing multiple customer-facing services, facilities or hospitality operations
  • Leadership experience gained in a hotel, retirement village, community living environment, large caravan or holiday park, resort or similar service-based setting
  • Demonstrated experience leading employees and contractors
  • Experience managing budgets, suppliers, stock, service performance and operational priorities
  • The ability to improve customer experience, service quality, presentation, systems and commercial performance
  • An understanding of maintenance planning, workplace health and safety, food service and contractor management
  • Strong judgement and communication skills when working with residents, families, employees, visitors and external service providers
  • The ability to balance commercial outcomes with quality, safety and a positive customer experience
  • A relevant leadership or management qualification, or equivalent practical experience
  • The ability to meet NewDirection Care’s applicable screening and employment requirements

Experience within aged care would be advantageous, but it is not essential. We are particularly interested in transferable operational leadership experience from environments that combine accommodation, hospitality, facilities and community services.

  • Work collaboratively as part of the management team
  • Build meaningful relationships with residents, families, employees and visitors
