Are you an expert within food production engineering with a keen interest in sustainability? Then perhaps you are our new professor. The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invites applications for a position as Professor in Sustainable Food Processing and Head of the Research Group for Food Production Engineering. The position is affiliated to the National Food Institute at DTU.
The professor is expected to provide scientific leadership within sustainable food processing and to contribute to the development of future food production systems through research and innovation at the interface of food processing, food materials science, and product functionality. Additionally, the new professor should support and engage in the ongoing development and visions for the many teaching activities at BSc, MSC and PhD level within the field, which is undertaken by this research group. The position should strengthen the international profile of the institute and support the development of sustainable, high-quality, resource-efficient, and health-promoting food production technologies and products.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You are expected to develop and lead an internationally recognized research program within sustainable food processing technologies. The research should advance scientific understanding of the relationships between food processing, structure, functionality, and quality, and contribute to the development of innovative processing technologies for sustainable, resource-efficient, high-quality, and health-promoting foods. You will also have extensive responsibilities for supervision, and curriculum development within food processing and food engineering, and you are expected to take a lead role in teaching at the BEng, BSc, MSc and PhD levels.
Applicants must have:
- A PhD degree within food engineering or a closely related field
- Documented research and academic impact leadership within food production engineering and strategic development of engineering research environments
- A strong and sustained publication record at a high international level
- Extensive experience with externally funded research and long-term collaboration with industrial partners and stakeholders, innovation projects, and interdisciplinary research initiatives
- Experience in translating research into industrial applications and sustainable engineering solutions
Additionally, experience within one or more of the following areas will be an advantage:
- Food processing–structure–function relationships
- Sustainable technologies
- Interfacial behavior of complex food colloids, including emulsions, foams, and gels
DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:
- Documented experience and quality of teaching and curriculum development
- Research impact and experience, funding track record and research vision
- International impact and experience
- Societal impact
- Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
- Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
- Communication skills
Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. In addition, supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTU’s salary structure for scientific staff:
Starting date is according to mutual agreement.
