# Senior Hydraulic Design Engineer

## Company Overview

*Not specified*

## Job Summary

The Senior Hydraulic Design Engineer will be responsible for designing oil conditioning and fluid-power systems, managing projects from customer inquiry through to factory acceptance. The role involves hydraulic circuit design, component selection, layout development, fabrication documentation, and providing technical support across sales, manufacturing, and after-sales teams. The engineer is expected to work independently on both standard and customized projects, guiding junior engineers and ensuring high-quality deliverables.

## Responsibilities

  • System and Circuit Design: Develop hydraulic and lubrication oil circuits for filtration units, vacuum dehydration systems, flushing skids, hydraulic power packs, and coolant filtration systems. Prepare hydraulic schematics and P&IDs using ISO 1219 symbols, perform engineering calculations for flow rates, pressure drops, pump/motor sizing, pipe and hose sizing, heater and cooler selection, reservoir volume, and heat load management.
  • Component Selection: Select appropriate pumps (gear, screw, vane, piston), motors, valves, filters, heaters, coolers, accumulators, sensors, gauges, hoses, and fittings. Evaluate vendor datasheets and technical offers, recommend makes aligned with customer-approved vendor lists, and collaborate with procurement for cost optimization and lead-time management.
  • Mechanical Design and Drawings: Create 3D models and skid layouts using SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor, focusing on maintainability and ergonomics. Prepare general arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication drawings, and assembly documentation with GD&T, weld symbols, and material specifications. Coordinate with outsourced vendors to resolve technical queries.
  • Pre-Sales and Proposal Support: Analyze customer inquiries, tender specifications, and datasheets. Prepare technical offers, preliminary drawings, schematics, and sizing sheets. Participate in technical discussions with clients and consultants as needed.
  • Project Execution and Documentation: Submit drawings and documents for customer approval, including GA, P&ID, BOM, datasheets, cable schedules, and operation & maintenance (O&M) manuals. Maintain BOMs and item masters in SAP B1, control drawing revisions, and prepare manufacturing data books.
  • Testing, Quality, and Handover: Define testing procedures for hydrostatic, functional, and performance testing, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). Support quality inspections at vendor sites and during final inspection at the plant. Analyze field feedback and service reports to implement design improvements.
  • Standardization and Development: Develop standard modules and templates for product series to reduce design cycle time. Support new product development, including IoT and online condition monitoring integration. Mentor junior engineers and draftsmen.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with Sales, Purchase, Manufacturing, Quality, After-Sales Service, and Electrical/Automation teams to ensure project delivery within schedule. Coordinate with electrical/control teams on control philosophy, interlocks, and panel inputs.

## Qualifications

  • Educational Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Diploma with strong relevant experience may be considered)
  • Technical

Skills

  • Strong fundamentals in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, and oil contamination control
  • Hydraulic circuit design and ISO 1219 schematic preparation
  • Sizing of pumps, motors, piping, heaters, coolers, and reservoirs
  • Knowledge of filtration technology: filter ratings, beta ratio, ISO 4406, water removal methods
  • Familiarity with lube oil and hydraulic oil flushing practices (ISO 23309 / ASTM D6439 advantageous)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software: SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor (mandatory); AutoCAD for 2D drawings
  • Experience with fabrication drawings: sheet metal, structural skids, tanks, piping, GD&T, weld symbols
  • Working knowledge of SAP B1 or similar ERP systems for BOM and item management
  • Basic understanding of electrical motors, starters, and instrumentation
