    Duties Summary

    The primary purpose of this position is to provide customer service representative services such as greeting visitors, answering telephones, responding to routine inquiries from a variety of customers and providing overall support to the administrative staff on the unit.

    • Sell products or services to customers.
    • Read and keep apprised of information and procedures to be aware of changes and new requirements.
    • Collect money, balance the cash drawer, and generate reports for credit card and debit sales.
    • Maintain daily record of sales transactions for office.
    • Use word processing software and printing equipment to create, edit, and retrieve, a variety of standardized documents..
    • Prepare correspondence relaying current factual and reliable information.
    • Perform timekeeping for employees, or departments.
    • Identify and formulate standards operating procedures for work processes.

    Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the date the certificate of eligible candidates is issued.     Specialized Experience Requirement:

    For the GS-6 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: Provided support and assistance processing a wide variety of requisitions; reconciled purchases and maintained files in accordance with regulations and agency directives; processed incoming and outgoing mail; established and maintained files, accountable property inventories and other records (hardcopy and/or electronic format); OR used automated software to produces reports, correspondence and other written documents in draft form;
    -OR-
    One full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education in a communications or business administration field of study that directly relates to this position;
    -OR-
    Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

    For the GS-7 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: Provided administrative oversight for business processes for the unit or program, such as financial, procurement, personnel, etc.; Carryied out new systems or administrative processes to meet unit needs; Established and maintained electronic records and filing system to control location, arrangement and use of active records and files; Used automated databases and software to gather information from a variety of sources to produce reports and record information; OR Prepared correspondence, forms, reports and other documents with a wide variety of technical terminology from rough drafts, notes or oral instructions;
    -OR-
    One full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education in a communications or business administration field of study that directly relates to this position;
    -OR-
    Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
