Hours: Up to 19 hours/week

Weekend position. Position is not benefits eligible. Some buildings and grounds or maintenance experience is required. It is essential that you be willing to work as part of a team.


Under the supervision of the Director of Administration and direction of the Facility Coordinator, the Custodian performs general cleaning and maintenance of the church buildings, grounds, facilities, furnishings, and equipment in order to provide a clean, comfortable and safe environment to promote the mission of the church. Specifics of these functions include the following:


  • Perform duties in a professional, friendly, and helpful manner

  • Performs cleaning and maintenance of buildings and facilities

  • Follows directions and establishes routines in the proper use of materials and supplies as prescribed

  • Maintains a clean campus

  • Vacuums, sweeps, mops, scrubs, shampoos, polishes and waxes floors

  • Empties trash receptacles

  • Ensures that all windows, doors, and other access areas are securely locked and unlocked as needed

  • Monitors heat and air conditioning needs

  • Monitors campus lighting needs

  • Dusts and cleans offices, sanctuary, chapel, and classrooms as assigned

  • Cleans and stocks restrooms and is responsible for building sanitation

  • Sunday Services, including set-up of tables, chairs, linens, umbrellas, canopies, refreshments, lighting, sound equipment, and other support as required

  • Special Events/Meetings including set-up of tables, chairs, linens, umbrellas, canopies, refreshments, lighting, sound equipment, and other support as required

  • Moves office and classroom furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed

  • May be required to make basic repairs

  • Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor or as identified at custodial shift changes


  • Lifts and carry up to 40 lbs.

  • Ability to work at heights up to 30 feet from ladders, scaffolds and lifts

  • Ability to work in a squatting, kneeling and standing position for an extended period of time

  • Understand and apply manufacturer usage and safety requirements for numerous cleaning products

  • Understand and comply with all local, state and federal safety regulations


  • Minimum of high school education or equivalent preferred.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Experience in custodial work or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

    • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment

    • Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to building's fixtures and equipment

    • Follow oral and written instructions

    • Exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of surfaces

    • Recognize, remedy, and report unsafe hazards
