General Notes
The Environmental Science (EVS) major is one of the few interdisciplinary programs at UT-Austin, integrating the principles of biology, geography, and geology to give students a holistic, broad perspective of some of the world’s most pressing environmental and sustainability issues. The EVS Academic Advising Coordinator position reports directly to the Director of Student Affairs in the Jackson School of Geosciences Student Affairs Office, and is responsible for academically advising students across all three EVS concentrations, including students in the EVS-Geographical Sciences major in the College of Liberal Arts as well as those in the EVS-Biology major in the College of Natural Sciences. This position is located in the Jackson School of Geosciences Building’s Holland Family Student Center.
In addition to coordinating academic advising services and serving as the sole academic advisor for EVS majors, this role facilitates EVS-specific events, teaches first-year Seminars each fall, assists with program and curriculum coordination, provides support with enrollment monitoring and management, updates EVS-specific websites, coordinates the internal transfer process, assists with new student orientation, conducts data collection and reporting, designs and implements retention and outreach efforts, assists with office events, petitions, and helps students navigate the EVS capstone process. It includes participating in professional conferences and individual professional development, serving on committees, making oral and written presentations and effectively representing the School.
Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the program and its shared governance across three Schools/Colleges at UT, competitive candidates must demonstrate success working across departments, with faculty, administrators, and be able to build consensus across various partners and groups across the university.
WORKING CONDITIONS: General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students, staff, faculty and administrators both during and after usual office hours. Occasional evening and weekend work required to assist with signature events, welcome week activities, field trips, etc., though most work will follow a regular business hours schedule.

  • Provide comprehensive student service and support to undergraduates; serve as primary contact and resource to new EVS first-year and transfer students.
  • Collaborate across UT offices to identify and support opportunities to enhance student success.
  • Represent the Jackson School/EVS program in meetings with students, parents, faculty or administrators; design and facilitate presentations to various related audiences throughout the academic year.
