Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate teacher to join our Christian Co-Op. The ideal candidate will be committed to integrating Biblical principles, promoting academic excellence, and fostering spiritual growth in students. As a secondary school academic coach in a hybrid co-op, you will provide in-class instruction in Bible and ELA classes, prepare detailed lesson plans for at-home learning days, and partner with parents to ensure students thrive academically and spiritually. Further, you will coach students as they complete their additional core subjects on their own individualized learning plans.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum
- Deliver engaging, biblically integrated lessons in alignment with the Co-op's mission and values.
- Develop and implement lesson plans for both on-campus and at-home learning days.
- Provide clear, detailed weekly instructions and resources for parents to facilitate at-home learning.
- Employ a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
Classroom and Student Management
- Create a positive and nurturing classroom environment that reflects Christian values.
- Foster students’ spiritual, academic, and personal growth through mentorship and prayer.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively while encouraging mutual respect and collaboration.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with parents as co-teachers to support student learning and character development.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, expectations, and any concerns.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to align curriculum and maintain consistency across grades.
Assessment and Reporting
- Evaluate student performance through projects, assignments, and assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and parents to encourage improvement and growth.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and other required documentation.
Academic Coaching
- Conduct weekly meetings with individual students to create achievable short-term goals.
- Provide tutoring and academic support to students, assisting them in successfully completing their individual classes on a timely basis.
- Communicate with parents regarding student accountability and academic progress in individual classes.
- Lead weekly corporate chapel with assistance from secondary school students.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Christian Education, or a related field (required).
- Teaching certification or equivalent (preferred).
- Prior teaching experience in a classical, Christian, or hybrid educational setting (preferred).
Faith and Character
- A committed Christian with a deep understanding of and agreement with the Melbourne Christian Co-op’s statement of faith.
- A heart for discipleship and a passion for integrating biblical principles into education.
- Strong moral and ethical character, serving as a Christ-like role model for students.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate students in an active learning environment.
- Proficiency in technology and educational tools for planning, communication, and teaching.
Working Conditions
- Teach on-campus classes [Monday, Tuesday, Thursday] and prepare lessons for at-home days.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and events as required.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and respectful classroom environment.
