Job Purpose:

The Access and Accommodation Specialist supports students with disabilities by developing and implementing ADA accommodation plans in compliance with federal and state laws. As a key member of the Disability Access team, the specialist manages the interactive accommodation process, collaborates with faculty and staff, and ensures effective access across academic programs. This role also contributes to broader initiatives within the Center for Student Academic Success.

Essential Functions:

  • 50% - Compliance and Case Management -
    • Management of the intake process from initial inquiry to completion of the intake with the student.
    • Review medical documentation and determine relevant, effective, and individualized ADA accommodations for students with disabilities as assigned by leadership.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality of files, reports, medical and psychological documentation of a student's disability.
    • Manage cases of persons with disabilities through the accommodation process and implementation as assigned.
    • Triage and recommend possible resolutions and options in a timely manner, utilizing immediate, short-term, and long-term strategies.
    • Provide education and information on a case specific basis tall parties involved in the accommodation implementation process. - (Essential)
  • 30% - Data Management
    • Document each contact and meeting; and use this information to generate statistical reports regarding use of accommodations, student trends, and impact of Disability Access services. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Contribute to the Center for Student Academic Success
    • Contribute to the Center for Student Academic Success sponsored programs.
    • Assist colleagues in all areas of CSAS with high priority projects as directed. - (Essential)

Educational Requirement:

Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

1 year

In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

Certifications and/or Licensures:


Skills & Abilities:

  • One year of experience working with individuals with disabilities in an educational or service-oriented setting.
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related disability laws and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA and other relevant privacy regulations.
  • Understanding of disability as diversity and universal design.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting historically marginalized populations.
  • Experience evaluating documentation and implementing reasonable accommodations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management or student information systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree (in relevant field) or 2 years' experience working directly with the creation of disability accommodation plans.
  • Specific Training and/or experience with communication in higher education or other complex organizational networks.
  • Experience conducting training or outreach related to disability awareness and access.
  • Familiarity with student development theory and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Working understanding of Assistive Technology and accessible software and hardware.

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Often (50%-75% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight (e.g., 50 pounds): Rarely (1%-49% of time)

Attention to Detail - Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods: Daily (>75% of time)

Problem-Solving - Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively: Daily (>75% of time)

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $21.95 - $26.89 hr

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): $21.97

Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): $27.45

Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): $32.94
