This position is a FULL TIME TEMPORARY POSITION in our laboratory located at:

Garden City NY 11530
This position will work hours between 4pm-12am.

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Accessioner reports to the Laboratory Supervisor and is responsible for receiving and accessioning surgical specimens and urine specimens into the Anatomic Pathology or Clinical Pathology computer system.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Receives and logs specimens into the AP/CP computer system.
- Assesses quality and appropriateness of specimens received and takes appropriate action, under the guidance of the laboratory Supervisor.
- Maintains neat, organized and legible written records.
- Maintains a clean organized work area.
- Maintains appropriate supply inventory at assigned area.
- Participates in in-service training as required.
- Prioritizes and reorganizes workload in response to emergency procedures.
- Adheres to departmental policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates flexibility in work schedule to include weekends and holidays.
- Demonstrates professionalism as evidenced by the cooperative attitude of peers and associated staff.
- Demonstrates commitment to our mission and Customer Service by adhering to all facets of the Laboratory policies and procedures.
- Performs other position related duties as assigned.
- Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.

- Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with physicians and other clinical personnel when gathering and exchanging specimen related information.
- Analytical skills necessary to ascertain physician needs.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when mixing solutions and reagents, embedding and cutting tissues.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact professionally and courteously with management and other personnel. Must be able to communicate effectively by telephone, e-mail and in person with customers, co-workers and supervisors.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 1 year previous Lab experience.
