Sea Dog Animal Training, LLC (SDAT) is looking to add top talent to our team! We are hiring an Animal Caretaker 1, who will be responsible for the daily care of all our animal residents. Individuals with experience working with exotic animals are preferred, however we welcome candidates with diverse animal experience for consideration.

SDAT works mostly with non-profit rescue organizations and shelters, and the public as well, to provide proactive behavioral management. As a company that focuses its efforts on reducing the pet overpopulation crisis in Houston, we are looking for passionate individuals that understand and support our important mission. We are committed to using training to help pets in need graduate to their forever homes.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with the challenges the city of Houston and surrounding areas face regarding the pet overpopulation crisis. SDAT offers a variety of services. Candidates will be expected to work on-site at our training and boarding facility, located in Cypress, TX. We offer a variety of training opportunities for our clients including private sessions, group sessions, socialization, Board and Train, boarding, etc. Applicants have the opportunity to progress to a Trainer position. A level is assigned, commensurate experience and performance (Apprentice Trainer level or Associate Trainer level). The majority of our work focuses on dogs; however, we also provide training for cats and exotics. Animal Caregiver I Basic Requirements:

- One (1) year of professional experience working with animals required

- Must be able to work a flexible schedule (including nights, weekends, and holidays)

- Physical ability to work with dogs and cats of various breeds and sizes.

- All positions are currently part-time status

Purpose/Description

Feed, water, walk, bathe, and otherwise provide care to maintain and promote the well-being of animals in the facility.

Clean and disinfect animal enclosures and other areas of the facility.

Keep records of all aspects of animal care.

Education and experience

High school diploma or equivalent

Short-term on the job training

English Language: knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Work setting/environment

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions

Requires working outdoors, exposed to very hot and very cold temperatures, and rain

Includes exposure to strong cleaning agents and disinfectants

Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable

Includes exposure to unpleasant odors

Includes exposure to animal urine, feces, vomitus, saliva and other bodily fluids

Includes some job tasks which need to be performed in close proximity to other people

Operation Monitoring: watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly

Operation and Control: controlling operations of equipment

Repair: minor repair of machines using the needed tools.

Technology/Computer Skills

Using a computer application, inputting data, retrieving specific records, and creating reports to communicate information

Word Processing: using a computer application to type text, insert pictures, format, edit, print, save, and retrieve word processing documents.

Internet: navigating the Internet to find information, including the ability to open and configure standard browsers, use searches, hypertext references, and transfer protocols, and send and receive electronic mail (e-mail)

Properly use handheld radios for communication within the facility and adhere to radio etiquette protocols

Tasks

Walk dogs safely inside the facility and outdoors using compassionate methods only

Provide playtime and 1:1 attention to animals in the facility as instructed

Transfer animals between enclosures

Inspect enclosures for broken parts or gaps which an animal could escape from or get injured

Minor repair of enclosures

Examine and observe animals to detect signs of illness, disease, injury, and distress

Provide accurate recordkeeping on all aspects of animal care and behavior per protocol

Report any animal or facility issues to supervisor in a timely manner

Bathe animals and trim nails

Prepare and distribute foods, supplements, and medications per instructions

Provide fresh water to each animal daily

Perform instructed minor medical treatment of animals

Perform basic animal training per instruction

Clean and disinfect animal enclosures and surrounding areas according to protocol

Clean and disinfect animal bowls, dishes, toys, tools, and equipment according to protocol

Do facility laundry

Lawnmowing and weed eating

Clean and straighten common areas

Unpack and put away delivered supplies

Other duties as assigned

Pay: $10.00 - $12.25 per hour
