The Director is responsible for growing the ministry by praying, staffing, and funding the area through the Advancement Lanes: Ministry, Board, Donor, Talent and International. The Director works in alignment with the Regional Vice President, staff, and board(s) to fulfill the FCA Vision, pursue the FCA Mission, and live the FCA Values by developing and executing a ministry plan for the assigned area. In the FCA Sports Environment(s), the Director creates a strategic, consistent approach to discipleship -- making disciples who make disciples. The Director is accountable for ensuring that the FCA ministry is conducted according to biblical standards and adhering to FCA policies and procedures.
MINISTERIAL DUTIES
FCA believes these responsibilities are critical to our mission and that this position plays a vital role in our ministry. FCA expects all functions and responsibilities outlined below to be carried out with a heart surrendered to serving God as a form of worship.
- Agree with, and abide by, FCA's Christian Community Statement.
- Follow a spiritual rhythm including daily prayer and Bible study to seek the Lord's will for the ministry of FCA.
- Lead, conduct and provide spiritual leadership for staff, volunteers, coaches and athletes through prayer, Bible study, worship and living by example so they are equipped to serve others.
- Be connected to and participate in a local church through worship and weekly involvement.

MINISTRY ADVANCEMENT
- Ensure FCA is engaging, equipping, and empowering coaches, athletes, and volunteers through 1-on-1s, Huddles and events.
- Train and equip staff to empower coaches and athletes to be disciples who make disciples in the Sports Environments.
TALENT ADVANCEMENT
- Oversee recruiting, hiring, training and developing effective and diverse staff.
- Recruit: Actively attract and recruit highly qualified staff prospects to specific ministry opportunities identified in the ministry plan.
- Hire: Select candidates, ensure they become fully funded, and onboard to fulfill specific roles and responsibilities based upon their calling, character, competence and chemistry.
- Train: Provide tools, resources and training to develop staff members' skills and increase their capacity and competence to effectively execute their responsibilities.
- Develop: Prepare staff to lead self, lead others, lead teams and lead organizationally in their current roles and to grow spiritually, personally and professionally for future opportunities.
- Ensure the recruiting, training, and developing of volunteers is strategically aligned with the goal of growing the ministry in the Sports Environments.
BOARD ADVANCEMENT
- Invite, involve, and invest in leadership boards who are committed to pray, serve, and give to advance the ministry.
- Encourage Representatives to surround themselves with Advisory Teams.
DONOR ADVANCEMENT
- Serve as the chief fundraiser and financial manager.
- Provide tools, resources, and training for FCA staff to fund the ministry by connecting, communicating, and caring for donors.
- Establish and execute an annual budget and funding plan by training and developing staff in growing Home Teams, major donors, and events.
INTERNATIONAL ADVANCEMENT
- Serve the aligned International Region by mobilizing staff and volunteers to pray, give, and go.
Qualifications
This position specifically will be for FCA Sports. The FCA Sports Director is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and expansion of sports ministry programs within Anne Arundel County. The director will lead initiatives that recruit, organize, and support leagues, clubs, FCA Outdoors, and All-Abilities programs, while working closely with coaches, athletes, volunteers, and community partners. This position plays a vital role in fulfilling FCA’s mission to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Program Development:
- Lead the growth and management of FCA Sports programs across multiple platforms including Leagues, Clubs, FCA Outdoors, and All-Abilities programs.
- Develop a strategic vision for expanding FCA’s presence in sports ministry through partnerships with local schools, churches, and organizations.
- Organize regular events, training sessions, and meetings with coaches, athletes, and volunteers to foster a strong FCA community.
2. Recruiting & Volunteer Management:
- Recruit, train, and develop volunteer coaches, sports directors, and leaders for all FCA programs.
- Create and manage a volunteer development pipeline that ensures program quality and sustainability.
- Work with staff and volunteers to organize outreach events, tournaments, and leagues.
3. Leagues & Clubs:
- Oversee the development and organization of sports leagues (youth, middle school, high school, and adult) and sports clubs.
- Coordinate with local schools, community centers, churches, and sports facilities to schedule practices, games, and events.
- Ensure that all league and club activities reflect FCA's core values and mission.
4. FCA Outdoors:
- Implement and grow FCA Outdoors programming that connects participants to God through outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, and hunting.
- Plan and lead outdoor adventure trips, discipleship outings, and skills clinics.
- Collaborate with local partners to create opportunities for FCA Outdoors events.
5. All-Abilities Programs:
- Champion the development and growth of FCA’s All-Abilities sports ministry, which seeks to include athletes of all abilities in sports and discipleship.
- Partner with local organizations to create inclusive sports opportunities and events for children and adults with disabilities.
- Ensure that All-Abilities programming reflects FCA’s commitment to building a diverse and inclusive community.
6. Discipleship & Spiritual Growth:
- Foster a Christ-centered environment by incorporating Bible studies, prayer, and discipleship into all sports programs.
- Mentor coaches and athletes, encouraging them in their spiritual growth and leadership.
- Equip staff and volunteers to lead faith-based discussions and activities.
7. Fundraising & Budget Management:
- Work with the FCA Development team to raise necessary funds to support FCA Sports programs and your own salary.
- Create and manage the budget for FCA Sports initiatives, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources.
- Develop donor relationships and communicate the impact of FCA’s sports ministry through regular reports and updates.
8. Marketing & Communication:
- Collaborate with the marketing team to promote FCA Sports programs, events, and initiatives to the local community.
- Utilize social media, newsletters, and other platforms to increase visibility and engagement for FCA Sports.
- Maintain strong relationships with local media and community partners to raise awareness about FCA’s mission.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in sports management, ministry, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience: Previous experience in sports management, coaching, ministry leadership, or nonprofit work is highly desirable, but not a necessity.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for sports and ministry.
- Experience with volunteer recruitment and program development.
- Spiritual: A mature Christian faith and a passion for FCA’s mission to lead coaches and athletes into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to participate in and lead physical sports activities and outdoor adventures.
- Occasional travel is required to attend meetings, events, and FCA Sports programs.
