POSITION: Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support
DEPARTMENT: Athletics
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Athletics
WORK SCHEDULE/FLSA: 12 months/year; Exempt
Primary Function:
The Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support oversees programs and services relating to student-athlete academic and athletic experience for the department of athletics. The Assistant Athletic Director will develop, manage, and oversee programs and services designed to improve student-athlete academic performance, retention, personal development, and general well-being. The Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support will co-advise the SAAC and ensure that its activities align with NCAA and MEC best practices. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Athletics. This position also works in close conjunction with the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) on many issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Sport/Athletic Management, Education, or other closely related field desired.
- 1 to 3 years experience in athletic compliance and/or athletic advising/support desired.
- Budgeting, planning and computer skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor student-athlete progress toward degree and GPA data to improve retention and academic success rate.
- Update a semester plan for each student-athlete at the end of each academic year with assistance from the University Advising Center.
- Assists the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance and Registrar Office with ARMS compliance software.
- Monitor and encourage student-athlete use of campus academic resources.
- Partner with the Tutoring Center to develop study skill training for student-athletes.
- Regularly meet with student-athletes who struggle with organization and time management. These student-athletes would be identified through early alerts from faculty.
- Coordinate away game travel notification to faculty.
- Assist student-athletes by checking student-athletes academic eligibility compliance with NCAA rules.
- Working alongside the Registrar's office on issues related to athletic academic eligibility
- Serve as the Co-Advisor for SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee).
- Development of a leadership program for student-athletes to develop their leadership abilities within and beyond their teams.
- Partner with the PCRC (Professional Career Readiness Center) to develop a career development path for student-athletes.
- Stay informed on new NCAA initiatives and study findings related to student-athlete programming.
- Conduct end of academic year student-athlete surveys and share results with the Vice President of Athletics, Senior Woman Administrator, Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance and Faculty Athletic Representative.
