Job Title:
Assistant Athletic Trainer, AHL
Pay Details:
The annual base salary range for this position in California is $70,000 to $72,000 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.
The Assistant Athletic Trainer, AHL, assists in managing the day-to-day sports medicine operations for the San Diego Gulls. This role works in collaboration with the medical and performance staff and under the direction and supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, AHL.
Responsibilities
- Manage the healthcare and wellness needs of all American League players, including prevention, evaluation and daily treatment of all injuries and illnesses under the direction of team physicians
- Develop and implement rehab and corrective exercise programs
- Coordinate all medical appointments and rehab plans in collaboration with physical therapist and strength and conditioning staff
- Provide medical coverage for all practices and games, including ice supervision, EMS and physician coordination, and visiting team needs as mandated by the American Hockey League
- Maintain all medical records daily in accordance with NHL/AHL guidelines using Athlete RMS
- Ensure all workers’ compensation documentation is filed correctly and that providers are reimbursed appropriately
- Maintain and manage medical supplies and inventory
- Promote and maintain a safe, organized, and clean working environment
- Assist with equipment load-in and setup on road trips
- Travel with the team on all road trips
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training
- Previous hockey experience as an Athletic Trainer
- NATABOC certification
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Excellent organizational skills
- Solution-oriented, with an innovative and creative approach to work and problem-solving
- Proficient computer skills, particularly with electronic medical records
- Extensive manual therapy skills
- Able to work within a high-performance team and interpret movement screens, player workload management, and performance-related data platforms
- Able and willing to work long hours, including weekends, as needed
- Able to collaborate effectively with staff, coaches, and management, while promoting and supporting professional relationships with players
- Able to travel domestically and internationally
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Education - Bachelor's Degree
Certifications Required – NATABOC and CPR/AED Certification
Experience Required – 3+ Years
