  • Hours of Work: This is a 10-month position. Early mornings, evenings and weekends required depending on departmental needs and schedules.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach contributes to the academic success, athletic development, and personal growth of student-athletes by supporting a competitive and inclusive basketball program aligned with the institution’s educational mission. Through collaboration with the head coach and other campus partners, the Assistant Coach helps create a high-performance team culture that prioritizes student-athlete well-being, academic achievement, and sustained program success.

Throughout the year, the Assistant Coach supports campus wellness and recreation by contributing to the effective operation and programming of the Blue Recreational Athletics Complex (RAC), helping to ensure broad student engagement and facility excellence. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position requiring a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to meet the evolving needs of student-athletes and campus programs.

The Assistant Coach is responsible for ensuring the four Pillars of Excellence are upheld: student athletes’ academic success, competitive success, campus relations, and community relationships; as well as the identified strategic priorities established in the LCCC Athletics Strategic Plan.

Principal Responsibilities and Results, KSA's

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: – this position is exempt and is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned).
Coaching- Support holistic student-athlete success by contributing to daily team operations that enhance both academic and athletic performance.

  • Assisting with practice planning and execution, delivering individualized skill development, and providing real-time feedback to optimize performance.
  • Foster a positive team culture through mentorship, academic support, and discipline, while collaborating with the head coach on film analysis to drive continuous improvement.
Facilities Management– Ensure a safe, efficient, and engaging recreational environment by supporting game day operations and facility management at the Blue Recreational Athletics Complex (RAC).
  • Responsibilities include executing essential game day functions such as scorekeeping, video, table work, ticketing, and event setup, while also maintaining facility readiness through equipment upkeep and patron support.
  • Contribute to student engagement and campus life by monitoring the RAC, coordinating intramural programs and assisting in the planning and execution of summer sports camps, fostering a vibrant and inclusive recreational experience.
Recruitment– Enhance the student-athlete recruitment experience by coordinating logistics that create a welcoming and informative campus visit.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Enrollment Services and Residential Living & Learning to ensure seamless tours and interactions.
  • Support talent acquisition by assisting the head coach with scouting efforts, contributing to the identification and engagement of prospective student-athletes who align with the program’s values and goals.
Sports Information Management- Increase program visibility and audience engagement by strengthening the media presence of assigned athletic teams through strategic collaboration with Marketing & Communications.
  • Drive awareness and fan interaction via targeted game day promotions, marketing initiatives, and social media campaigns.
  • Ensure accurate and timely information by maintaining the athletics website and updating team and individual statistics, contributing to a consistent and professional public image.
Administrative Duties– Support institutional and NJCAA compliance by assisting with key operational logistics that uphold regulatory standards and ensure smooth program functioning.
  • Contribute to travel coordination, student-athlete eligibility processes, and accurate purchasing documentation, helping maintain accountability, transparency, and adherence to college and athletic association policies.
Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.

  • Administrative–Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and workplace terminology.

  • Customer and Personal Service–Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Education and Experience Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree
  • Two (2) years of coaching experience or collegiate playing experience in the assigned sport.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Two year’s collegiate playing experience in the assigned sport
