Job Overview
We are looking for a dynamic and strategic Assistant Controller or Controller to lead the financial operations of our fintech startup. This role requires a hands-on finance leader who can establish scalable accounting processes, ensure compliance, and provide strategic insights to drive growth. The ideal candidate will have experience in venture-backed startups or financial services, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee accounting operations, including monthly close processes, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance
- Create and implement scalable financial systems and processes to support growth, embracing automation and efficiency where possible
- Partner cross-functionally across the organization and with executive leadership to align financial strategies with business objectives
- Oversee financial audits and provide counsel on accounting-related issues
- Manage relationships and coordinate with external parties, such as auditors, valuation advisors, banks, and regulatory agencies
- Support FP&A, financial operations, cash management, and ad-hoc special projects
- Ensure adherence to GAAP, tax regulations, and risk management and compliance standards
- Develop and scale the finance team as the company grows, fostering a high-performance culture in support of company goals
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably with experience in the fintech or financial services industries
- Strong expertise in GAAP, financial controls, and regulatory compliance
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees across the organization, as well as the ability to roll up sleeves as needed
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills and ability to handle complex accounting issues
- Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong proficiency with financial modeling and accounting and finance tools (e.g., Excel, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Stripe, Brex, Ramp, etc.)
- Financial certifications, such as CPA, or applicable regulatory licenses
- Public accounting experience
- Candidates local to the San Francisco Bay Area preferred

We are open to candidates at either the Assistant Controller level or Controller level. Compensation and title will be determined based on a number of factors, such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

Pay: $140,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
