The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible for the nursing team and quality of patient service in the absence of the director of nursing. The ADON supervises, analyses, delegates, and evaluates nursing activities and ensures patient comfort and care.
Responsibilities of Assistant Director of Nursing/SDC:
- Help to hire, train, teach, and monitor nurses.
- Manage clinical operations and developing care plans.
- Prepare the daily schedule and planning shifts.
- Ensure nursing staff follows departmental procedures and policies.
- Assist in budget preparation and expense management.
- Conduct patient rounds and addressing complaints.
- Evaluate the performance of the department and recommending improvements.
- Schedule staff meetings for patient updates, issues, and recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and local standards.
- Keeping patient and employe records updated and accurate.
- Provide education, training, educational guidance and support to the facility
- Function as a team leader by working well with Human Resources, the DON, the Executive Director and with Regional Staff
- Carries out facility initiatives in accordance with company policies and governmental regulations so as to promote the highest standards of quality and best practices in education and training
- Provide general orientation, mandatory in-services, continuing education, and other training to meet all department and facility needs and regulatory requirements
- Set up and maintain Preceptor Programs
- Determine and assess facility education needs
- Plan, develop, and implement training
- Report and document any allegations of abuse, neglect and misappropriation of funds
- Include the RAI process in training and orientation to assure optimal utilization of services
- Evaluate and monitor the transfer of training to the workplace
- Perform competency skills to assess transfer of safety training to the workplace
- Assess training outcomes and determine effects, such as improved staff retention
- Assure quality in education by utilization of authoritative resources and best practices
- Support associate relations to ensure practices that maintain high morale and staff retention
- Assist, coach, redirect and document performance problems as needed
- Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, policies and procedures including but not limited to those within the Compliance and Ethics Program, Standard/Code of Conduct, Federal False Claims Act and HIPAA
- Participates in required orientation and training programs
- Promptly reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance to supervisor
- Cooperates with monitoring and audit functions and investigations
- Participates, as requested, in quality assurance and process improvement activities
Qualifications for Assistant Director of Nursing/SDC
- Current, unencumbered nursing license in MA (Registered Nurse (RN) license, preferred but not required)
- Previous experience in Nursing
- Proven leadership & management skills
- Strong verbal & written communication skills
- Must maintain confidentiality regarding resident & CFSC proprietary information
- Ability to relate professionally & work cooperatively with residents & staff at all levels
- Strong knowledge of Point Click Care
