The Assistant Director of Youth and Family Ministries will be responsible for assisting the Pastor in the development and implementation of programs that cater to the spiritual, educational, recreational, and social needs of the children’s and youth programs at Heritage Presbyterian Church in Mason, OH. The Assistant Director of Youth and Family Ministries will serve alongside the Pastor and Director of Children’s Ministry as a mentor and role model, guiding children and youth in their personal faith journeys and understanding of Christian principles.
Effective communication with parents, guardians, and volunteers, as well as the timely completion of administrative tasks are essential to ensure the smooth operation of children’s and youth programs. The Assistant Director of Youth and Family Ministries will play a vital role in fostering a supportive and engaging environment for family ministries, encouraging the development and connection to the church community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Pastor/ Head of Staff, Children’s Ministry Director, Christian Education and Spiritual Enrichment (CESE) Committee, and other church leaders to define family ministry programming and support the mission and vision of the church.
- Connect and build trust with children, youth, parents, and guardians.
- Assist the Pastor and Children’s Ministry Director in educating and mentoring children and youth on important life skills, values, and Christian principles.
- Serve as a positive role model for children and youth, demonstrating leadership qualities and promoting personal growth.
- Maintain Family Ministry monetary accounts for meals, fundraising, and event payments.
- Collect and organize medical forms, background checks, waivers, and other policy paperwork as needed.
- Travel as needed for local or overnight domestic and international mission trips.
- Collaborate with Pastor, Children’s Ministry Director, and CESE to design and organize meetings, outings, mission events, fundraisers and other activities.
- Coordinate required training for participants including parents, guardians, chaperones and other volunteers.
- Schedule and communicate event calendars to drive excitement and participation.
- Promote awareness via videos, social media postings, announcements, newsletters, etc.
- Assist with organizing and running scheduled children’s and youth group meetings and Christian Education lessons.
- Provide emotional and spiritual support to youth as needed, especially in times of grief or loss. Support mental, emotional, and physical well-being of children, youth, and their families.
Required Qualifications:
- Christian, with demonstrated knowledge of Christian values and principles.
- Exhibit interpersonal skills which are welcoming, caring, and nurturing of our multigenerational church members and visitors.
- Experience with faith-based discussions.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize and self-direct.
- Ability to work with open mindedness, flexibility, and adaptability.
- At least 25 years of age.
- Availability in-person on Sundays (for youth group time) and occasional weekends/evenings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, Google Workspace, and social media.
- Physical ability with or without reasonable accommodations to travel with youth on outings and participate in activities as necessary to ensure the safety of all participants.
- Part time availability: Avg 20 hrs/wk; heavier workload Sept-May, with flexible summer needs.
- Certification in youth ministry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in ministry, social work, counseling, or education.
- Experience with faith-based discussions.
- Experience with youth leadership and engagement.
- Experience in a Reformed Presbyterian background
